Re: [hlds] sv_downloadurl problem
Yeah, it's driving me nutso. I've used this for a long time, and it's always worked great. One day, no bandwidth. AFAIK nothing has changed. I can only guess that I've done something stupid somewhere. I may start from scratch, delete all of my downloadable content, go back through server configs again. This is one of those stupid simple things that should work! - Original Message - From: Rob [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, October 24, 2004 7:56 PM Subject: Re: [hlds] sv_downloadurl problem -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] By what you have said in your other posts you would have your .wad files in the /xdm folder correct. I originally had a problem with the folder layout when I first started using it. The folders must mirror your server exactly and your .wad files should be in the folder that sv_downloadurl indicates and all other files in the correct folders as on the game server. Since you said the .bsp files are in /xdm/maps I would have to assume you have it right. You have created a .res file for each map and placed it in the /maps folder on the game server right. Actually when I think about it most maps wouldn't download from the game server properly without them. I have to admit your problem is somewhat puzzleing. An easy way to test it is to wait untill the server is on a custom map and the rename the .bsp file for that map on your client then connect or rename it and then connect and change to that map. The server will have to download the map to your client and you will know immediatly if it is working. Hope you get it figured out. It is a wonderful thing when it works. Rob... Re: [hlds] There is a serious Logging Bug since BETA...
[ Converted text/html to text/plain ] Addendum: Okay now I have confirmation that this bug is present on all types of server - even linux (got some more info from linux users as well as log files - same problem there). This should make tracking it down much easier. We just can hope that VALVe will pays more attention to this problem! I know this may not be first priority for many of you, but as you see many sites are already starting with log parsing for their homepages as well as their TOP10 lists etc. and people finally begin asking hey why they have so many suicides, missed kilss etc. cant you fix it - I always have to say the same, that till VALVe fixed the log messages we cant do anything...! Lets push this, I guess that this bug will not be hard to fix, it just needs to get recognized... Thanks in advance, LD On Sun, 24 Oct 2004 13:22:44 +0200, Lord Devil wrote: [ Converted text/html to text/plain ] Hello everyone! I want to report a serious issue with the logging capabilities of CS:Source. This bug exists since the BETA, I reported it many times but it never got fixed. Now as there are coming more and more LOG Parsers out I guess its time to do something against this bug. I copy the description of this bug from the Forum Post I posted some days ago: Original post: http://www.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?s=threadid=162488[1[1] ] -- Hello ! Many of you dont know it... but many people are already beginning with some kind of stats logging. I just wanted to inform you, that the current state of the cs:s dedicated server version does not allow accurate log parsing ala PsychoStats, HLStats...! The Log Output of CS:S sometimes misses connect lines as well as entered the game lines. Well this wouldnt be much of a problem if there were not the problem that sometimes KILLS get logged as suicides! (Log_level 15 does not help!) I got log files even from servers all over the world and tried it (I guess this were all windows servers) and I could verify the missing log lines. You can also track when this happens. Just open the Server in VGUI mode and look at the Players TAB - You will see that sometimes players are playing on the server but not showing up in this tab! Exactly when this happens - Everyone who kills a player not in this players list get logged as being suicided! I tested it with standard configs, log_levels, console mode, VGUI mode, I got logs from different servers - everywhere the same problem! We really have to push this to valve so they will know it. I reported this problem since the BETA but it always got ignored! Kind regards and plz help us fix this, LD -- The main problem with this bug is, that it gets ignored by most of the people(thats why it gets rarely reported) - I brought this up on many forums but many people said no everything works fine, because it doesnt happen all the time and not everyone is so nit- picking as me. But when I told them they should believe me if they dont they should give me me their log files and homepages so I can give them some evidence - I checked it for them and now they believe me too. Missing kills, kills reported as suicides etc. - that are just the problems I can identify... In the forum post above I already described when exactly the problem appears... So I really hope VALVe can fix those issue otherwise we will never be able to do accurate stats logging. I guess its just one bug which causes this behavriour, but we need to track it down and find it... RE: [hlds] There is a serious Logging Bug since BETA...
[ Converted text/html to text/plain ] Hello Alfred! First off, thanks for listening ;) ! Well as I know how difficult it is to track down bugs which dont occur all the time and just happen every now and then, I now took the time with 3 friends trying to reproduce the problem and it seems we were successfull! Usually it just happens all the time on the servers if many people are joining and leaving the server, but now as we tested with 3 people we should be able to give you a detailed description: First off we tried it on a standard Dedicated Server 16 people running in VGUI Mode (FF on, log 1, hldsupdatetool version-so non steam, but I guess it should work with every configuration). To reproduce the problem do the following: 1) Player A joins the Server - join the Terrorists team (everything will be logged right!) 2) Player B joins the Server - join the CT team (everything will be logged right again!) 3) Player C joins the Server - join any of the team but be sure that you are still in the DEAD status when joining (so only join the team after the 30 seconds of the round have passed, thats imported, because then you will not spawn immeadently, instead you will be dead until next round) 4) Now Player A has to leave the game - now the bug should occur - you can see it if you watch in the VGUI windows of the server under the Players Tab, you will see that not only Player A is removed from this tab, also player C who is just in this DEAD status is removed. From now on this player will not be right logged in the console anymore. E.G. if he kills someone, there may be no log line, If another player kills him there may be a suicide logged etc. ! If a new or the same player now enters the game again I guess all people will show right again. But I had not the time to test every possibilty! The described way should just show the main problem, so you should be able to track it down from this on. If you need any further descriptions feel free to ask, also if the above way should not work I could try to give you more detail. But as it looks, this bug should happen on every server configuration. Its just better to use the VGUI server version (not console mode) as you can see the logging problem already in this Player Tab - I first thought its just a bug that people dont show up in this tab sometimes, but it seems its directly related to the wrong logging output! You can also easliy see this bug on a running full live server - as there are joining and leaving people all the time, you may see that the player TAB does not hold all people who are playing in the game. And then you should also encounter many suicides logged etc... Thank you, LD P.S. Sorry for my bad english, but as english is not my native language it wasnt so easy to explain, hope you got everything right! I want to report a serious issue with the logging capabilities of CS:Source. This bug exists since the BETA, I reported it many times but it never got fixed. Now as there are coming more and more LOG Parsers out I guess its time to do something against this bug. I copy the description of this bug from the Forum Post I posted some days ago: Original post: http://www.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?s=threadid=162488[1[2] [1] ] -- Hello ! Many of you dont know it... but many people are already beginning with some kind of stats logging. I just wanted to inform you, that the current state of the cs:s dedicated server version does not allow accurate log parsing ala PsychoStats, HLStats...!

This is a multi-part message in MIME format. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Wow, I'm sorry I asked the original question. I never thought it would provoke such a spirited debate. By the way, I did find the correct version and get it installed. Sure wish I could find that admin (P-K) and get a copy of his warcraft3.amx file. It would save me the hassle of figuring out all the variables and recompiling. Too bad he never answers his PM's at http://server.counter-strike.net/forums. Re: [hlds] sv_downloadurl problem
I looked into my archives, and I've always had those missing wad files in the RES, and I don't have a valve directory, sv_downloadurl points into the mod directory. That is not what is stopping this from working. I re-verified my maps and stuff, didn't actually change anything, tried it and it works. wtf? I'm loosing it...why didn't it work before? I just now tried ook_criticalmass24, the one that would not download a few days ago, and it is screaming in from my download site. At this point I'm beginning to suspect my download site may be having issues, but when I couldn't get a client to download from the I could manually download from there. I've had a few players tell me that the download is working fine for them as well. I even tried http://www.zootal.com/xdm/valve/maps/ook_criticalmass24.bsp and it still will not download from the download site.
