Several reason why I can think of, off the top of my head:
 1. You are already in the server and want to demo a player
 2. SRCTV is obvious
 3. SRCTV does not display the nuances of the players actions, no zooming,
no recoil, no flashbangs etc etc
 Cheers

Alfred, he means you are spectating and you have a player in first person
mode and demo'ing them and for whatever reason the player does not die
(probably because they are cheating) so you have no reason to touch the
keyborad or mouse and this causes the server think you are inactive since it
has received no input from you, the server kicks you.
 Does that make sense?

[hlds] Admins Being Kicked for Inactivity.

2005-10-28 Thread Desolate_One
Alfred,
Would it be possible to have Admin who have entered the
rcon_password, who are spectating, NOT be kicked as per current?

Get's EXTREMILY annoying when you are trying to gather enough evidence to
substantiate a ban of any description, when you get kicked after 5 minutes.

Would be appreciated across the Admins I would hope.

Thanks.

RE: [hlds] Losing net connection when I refresh the server list - OT

2005-10-28 Thread ray
Sir,

I suggested a website, pointed you to a possible solution and that you
simply list OT in the subject so we can properly filter our inbound. Those
weew two things I gave you and 1 simple request. Not sure how long it's been
since you've trudged down to a nice quiet bar and had a cold one but I'd
suggest you take some time out of this weekend and go cool yourself off.
Call your momma and tell her you love her or something. This is a server
administration list as you well know and so should you also know that your
question definitely falls into the aforementioned title of OT. The net isn't
a place you show your ass at a guy who don't deserve it. If somebody else
stepped on your toe today go bark at them but don't light up on me during
your bad day. Might find a few teeth missing some day over shooting your
mouth off like this. Just some friendly advice.

Thanks for the suggestion, it seems to have worked.

Your additional attitude was not required or welcome though. I am a server
admin, and I have helped when I can on these mailing lists. So people like
you and Eric can shove it up your elitist asses when it comes to telling
people to not use the mailing lists for help, even if it happens to be a
simple question that may not be directly related to a Linux or Win server.

I've seen far worse off topic discussions here that go on for days
unchecked. So when 1 person (a server admin no less) asks for a little help
you may want to consider biting your tongue instead of being a jerkoff.

The issue with the refresh causing a timeout is definitely related to your
internet connection. I was on a "ultra-highspeed" connection previously and
never had the issue. Then I switched internet providers and now I have this
issue all the time. It is definitely the case.

Please take this to the Steampowered.com Forums or please list [OT] in the
subject. On your way check the settings of your Steam client and turn the
speed down in there. That is suppose to directly control how many servers
it
queries at a time when you refresh.

Wouldnt worry about it? I cant get server lists if I lose connection
everytime hit refresh, and it cuts off whatever else I have going that is
connected to the net. I consider this a big problem.

And now that I think about it, I know this didnt occur before because just
last week (on previous WinXP install) I was browsing server for custom
maps
to play. So I really doubt its the router.

Subject: [hlds] Losing net connection when I refresh the server list

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
This is no joke. I am temporarily losing net connection when I refresh
the
Server browser list. I can play a game fine, until I want to refresh the
server browser. This occurs from the ingame browser and the steam
browser.
If using the ingame browser I actually lose connection to the current
game.

This is a fresh WinXP SP2 install, all updates installed. Firewall is
on,
and I just tried adding all of Steam to the firewall exceptions list and
it
still does it. I never noticed the problem before, but I rarely play on
anyone elses server but my own, so I usually just goto Favorites and join
my
server.

Any help would be appreciated.

You could always try www.speedguide.net 's tcp optimizer to change the max
number of connections per server I am not sure if it will help your
concern tho, as it sounds like a 'bursting' problem caused by something like
antivirus/antispyware and/or a firewall or router. Maybe it's just because all
3 are contributing as well.

But try the optimizer anyway. You may enjoy some other effects from it on your
connection.

RE: [hlds] Losing net connection when I refresh the server list - OT

2005-10-28 Thread ray
Please take this to the Steampowered.com Forums or please list [OT] in the
subject. On your way check the settings of your Steam client and turn the
speed down in there. That is suppose to directly control how many servers it
queries at a time when you refresh.

Wouldnt worry about it? I cant get server lists if I lose connection
everytime hit refresh, and it cuts off whatever else I have going that is
connected to the net. I consider this a big problem.

And now that I think about it, I know this didnt occur before because just
last week (on previous WinXP install) I was browsing server for custom maps
to play. So I really doubt its the router.

its probly just your internet connection.. when it loads up that massive
list of servers, it creates a bottleneck, so other things lose connection
temporarily. that would be my first guess.. cuz like a firewall wouldn't
do
something like that.. my guess is either your internet connection, or you
just have a junkie router or something.
