Just wondering why boosting is limited to 2 players and if there is any
chance of at least making the max for the CVAR higher than 1?

2005-11-14 Thread James McKenna

Lot's of assumptions made here. You guys are truly the elite. I'm 21 years
old, so kid probably isn't the best term for me. Furthermore, until I
changed the ports of my whutdufuk.com server, I was ranked #1 for hldm
servers by game-monitor.com. Regardless of the domain name, we still managed
to pull the most popular dm server. Thanks for the kind words, Whisper.

I have followed the downloadurl guides. Probably why all my other custom
content off of my download url works perfectly. Egads! I missed a hlds
mailing list thread?! Probably because I try and skip over the idiot
comments posted by users like you, Whisper. I set these two sounds up
exactly the same as my other custom content, and yet they aren't working,
whereas the other content is. Perhaps I was looking for a refresher.
Something to point me in the right direction because I may have missed a
minor detail. Instead I was met with hostility. Great job.

I've been here for months now, Ray.

Normally I wouldn't come to this list for this kind of help, mainly because
of the response one can already anticipate from you prodigy's.

I'll keep messing with it, and I'll refer back to prior posts and the
wiki. It'll probably assist me more than the arrogant server guru's who
increase the size of their e-penis by putting those with actual questions
down.

Cheers.

Again, that only assigns a specific amount of RAM to the
process. The basis of the problem is that the exe can't
address 4GBs of RAM to select it's slice from. So, yes, we
tried heapsize settings originally and that did not create a solution.

Weird. We tried the suggested /3GB switch in boot.ini when it was
suggested but to no avail. I know a couple of guys tried to help but
everything we tried forced us to offload our 1.6 clients to smaller
dual xeons servers that are all too common in this list. End
 result, we
found a way to run 1.6 on our work-horse hardware and thought others
might be interested in this tidbit of oddity. So the
 question becomes,
not that we'll every try it, wonder how may active player
slots we could run on 8.0GHz of 4 CPU cores.
 Heh heh

if sv_downloadurl is set, custom files will appear to download no matter
what even if the URL is wrong, the files don't exist, the http server is
down, or whatever else prevents them from being downloaded...

double check the URL you set in sv_downloadurl and also make sure the path
on your http server matches the game server's path.

if game server path to maps folder is C:\srcds\cstrike\maps and path to
sound folder is C:\srcds\cstrike\sound, make sure the http server's path

the maps folder is root/cstrike/maps and path to sound folder is

This has been happening with me for awhile now but just recently found out
it was due to not being able to connect to our sv_downloadurl that is set up

I have tried with no security running, still won't connect.
When I set cl_allowdownloads to 0, game won't crash. It only crashes when
set to 1 tfc tries to connect to fast downloads.
Any ideas?

Wouldn't sv_allowdownload 0 stop anyone from downloading from the server and

Besides, this shouldn't be a cvar issue when I'm the only one affected by it.
it's something clientside that is stopped me from connecting to fast dls.

This may be to obvious but it totally kicked my butt when I first
started using the sv_downloadurl. Verify the files in your .res files
are in the proper case as in Dumb_map_noise.wav instead of
dumb_map_noise.wav. I found that allot of maps come with .res files that
have the files listed wrong and it will not download them from the
mirror if they are. I always make my own .res files now. Just a thought,
drove me nuts I tell ya.

RE: [hlds] VAC and Listen servers

2005-11-14 Thread Alfred Reynolds
Yes, running a listen server with sv_lan 0 will make it secure (as
long as you didn't also put -insecure on the command line when
launching the game). Typing status into the console will also tell you
if you are running secure. SU means Service Unavailable, which is a
temporary glitch due to backend updates, the server will just reconnect
when Steam is available again.

Subject: [hlds] VAC and Listen servers

Alfred

Can you confirm that VAC2 can run on a listen server by typing: sv_lan 0
once the server is started please.

It says:

Connection to Steam servers successful.
   VAC secure mode is activated

Is VAC actually running, and can it detect people who connect to the
server
with cheats?

My guess is yes its running because VAC2 does not need a module like
VAC1
did, all the technology for VAC is in the client and the server only
tells
the client if the server requires VAC on or off. Other people dont
agree.

Also, I noticed this a couple of times:

Connection to Steam servers successful (SU).
   VAC secure mode is activated

Are you able to explain what this (SU) means?

Thanks

James

Does any of you serverops use this have it working or is there another one
