I agree with Frazer on this one. When I need to get in to see what my
server is doing, I use RDP. VNC still isn't a true KVM solution, so
instead of adding this on top of Windows, I would prefer to use what's
built in. If you have the money, use a IP based KVM solution :)

In terms of ogsRCON, this app is simply a way to admin your server
remotely WITHOUT having to use either RDP or VNC (or any alternative).

The below is what I schedule to run at 4am every morning to perform the
HLDS Update Tool:
@echo off
d:\scripts\ogsRCon 202.58.54.105 27015 "quit" 2 net stop "POON
SRCDS"
start /WAIT d:\hlds\hldsupdatetool -command update -game "Counter-Strike
Source" -dir d:\hlds sleep 120 net start "POON SRCDS"

I've tried a few combinations of stop/starting the server, and this
seems to work the best. My only problem, is that if I omit the sleep
statement in the batch file, The SRCDS service tries to start back up
half-way through the hldsupdatetool running. Even if I remove the
'start' command, it still does it.

If anyone has any suggestions to fix this, then that would be greatly
appreciated. I think I may have to code it in vbscript and just leave it
at that.

While the discussion about RDP and VNC is a good one, I just wanted to
point out that ogsRcon is not a replacement for either - its really just
a little command prompt application for sending rcon commands - suitable
for use in bat files as part of an overall automation strategy.

On the other topic, I prefer RDP, only because its what I am used to and
because its all built in to Windows (both on Windows Server and XP). No
additional downloads or installations and security is good and
integrated.

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] I find that RDP greatly
outperforms TightVNC and is less problematic. I only use VNC if I have
to look at the console for some reason, which is rare.

Just to clear something up for you :)

The server is free and people "sell" servers for their own profit, not

Why files on your server is getting currupted is not really something
Alfred should worry about unless it's the engine or updateservers who
currupt them.

I presume you have a firewall and antivirus on your systems?

We are in need of help to solve a on going problem with "server side"
map

When clients connect to any of our 1U servers they will get Map differs
errors on the stock maps. This error happens on stock source css, 1.6,
and
Source DOD maps. We have a OZ server running for the last week that has
had
no issues as of this writing.

Here are the server specs.
Server 2
dual amd 2400+ mps

Server 1

At one time both servers were exactly the same,(same as Server 1 but
with
windows installed)

We thought it might be a hard drive issue so we upgraded Server 2 with
new
Raptor 36 gig hard drives/raid 0 and installed Fedora on server 1 hoping
to
elimante it from being a Windows OS problem. After the upgrade to this
1U we
ran Memtest for 14 hours and a 2nd session of 6 hours with no errors, we
also ran Prime95 over night with no errors.
Within 5 hours of the fresh server 2000 install/hard drives on server 2
the
stock maps
started to differ, the other 1U(server 1) ran for almost 2 weeks on
stock
Source CSS
maps before having this problem and it gets worse every day.
Again this same problem happens on both 1U boxs to stock .bsp files and
a
few .wav files on the Linux box, all verified by the hlds tool/verify
all
command
The Source CSS server`s "map differs" errors is 4 to 1 to the 1.6 server
We
have also noticed that the .bsp that differ are haveing the md5
hash/check
sum changed. However we can not find what is changing them. The only
way
to fix them is to run the hldsupdatetool with -verify_all and have it
redownload the stock maps and then they work. We need to run the hlds
tool
about every 4 hours or less.

This is my plea Help us
I will run any program you suggest or give you complete access to one or

RE: [hlds] getting 1000fps on HLDS (about timers)

2006-02-14 Thread Adam Sando
This is not an answer for your question Ilya, however I am also curious
about this:

I am running my CS:S server at 66 tick, and am using the srcfpsboost app
that someone out in the community wrote. When the srcfpsboost app isn't
running, my source runs at 64fps. When I run the app, it jumps
immediately up to 512 fps.

Is there anyway to get it up to 1000 fps? Is there any benefit in
running more than 512 fps?

I'm happy to run the machine at 512 fps given that fact that I never
have any problems with our server, and constantly get people mentioning
how responsive and fast our server seems (could be the hosting provider
too).

Any thoughts would be welcome guys/gals :)

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Hello!

Firstly i will start with my hardware and software:

CPU: Dual Xeon 3200 FU
Motherboard: Intel SE7520JR2ATAD2
OS: Windows XP pro SP2 (Also tried Windows 2003 server, x64 editions of
XP/2003, even tried beta version of Vista/longhorn) but the problem is
still the same. (something about NT core?)
Program: HLDS ( Half Life Dedicated Server (using sys_ticrate 1
(limit number of updates))).
Drivers: I am using all latest drivers, system updates and firmware.

First of all i dont really know how to explain it technicaly, the thing
i will talk about is called Windows Multimedia timer / system timer /
sleep time. I am not sure about correct name, but you will understand it
from my future words, at least i hope so.
By default this timer is running on Windows systems with 16ms delay,
when im running my HLDS i am getting 64updates per second, and it addes
around 16ms in ping, i noticed that if i start media player with paused
movie in same time, i will get 512updates and around 3ms delay. That
means that Windows Media player making this timer lower. But its only
512updates, while limit of HLDS is 1000. I was looking for a solution
for a long time and finally found! I changed ACPI driver to ACPI PC and
yes! I got 100fps by default (~5ms delay) and 1000fps and zero delay
with Media Player on! It was working perfect on my home PC with only 1
CPU. On my server with Dual Xeon it was working also but... But it seems
that only 1 CPU was working, ACPI PC isnt that good for Multiprossesor
system, i lost a lot of hardware power with it, so i changed it bacl to
ACPI multiprocessor and having only 512updates on my server atm.
The question about my problem is:
How can i get 5ms delay or 0 delay with media player on, without losing
any hardware resources(With normal ACPI multiprocessor driver). I
remember it was good in old windows 9x times. (Maybe its possible to
change timer over regedit or over some services or get some specific
driver).

- on Linux systems this problem can be solved by changing kernel ticrate
to 1000HZ.

I hope to hear a solution for getting zero delay on Windows system.
Thank you!

I do not know if it`s an issue with our 1U`s as they were identical up to

The Famous "Your Map de_dust differs from the server" ERROR.
It happens with all stock or at one time or another any custom map we run in
no recognizable pattern.

We have had this annoying problem for a long long time on 2 1U boxs we use
to run CSS, DOD and CS servers on. I do not know if its a Steam issue or a
OS issue of some sort. This has nothing to do with the client side files,
FTP programs or the Bz2 files hosted for downloading on a separate website
so please do not even bring it up.
We have a fresh install of Server 2000 as a set of new HD`s were just added.

We decide to test the server with the stock install as we hoped we had
corrected the issue on this box, but it was not running more than 5 hours
when we started getting "Your Map any_stockmap differs from the server" Out
of the 17 Stock maps 8 of them were then updated by hldsupdatetool with
"update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir D:\CSS\AnB -verify_all -retry"
command to fix the problem as we have done this so many times before.
On Custom Map differs we delete and upload to the server again. This can
happen on a daily basis to any maps or just the same one for a while and
some times can go a week or so with out happening.

[hlds] DOD:Source CPU Usage

2006-02-14 Thread MOFCLAN.NET :: Bush

I'm wondering if this is normal.

20:00:35 CPU InOut Uptime Users FPSPlayers
55.81 62125.13 219015.28 34010 512.48 32

As you can see the CPU is at 55%. This server is a 50tick 32 slot server.

Machine Specs:

AMD 3800+ Dualcore w/ 2gigs of ram running win2k3 web edition.

Bandwidth is pretty much unlimted, we are located within level3.net's main
datacenter in chicago, il.

But I ask why such high CPU?

Thanks.

RE: [hlds] ogsRcon Beta available for download

2006-02-14 Thread Adam Sando
Hey mate,

I'm using a scheduled task to kick it off, however the .bat file
exhibits the same problem when kicking it off through explorer too
(double-clicking).

I think the bat file thinks that the hldsupdatetool has finished doing
what it was meant to, and so thinks its ok to keep running the rest of
the .bat commands.

Renaming this to .cmd also has no effect. The only reason I used the
'start' command was to see if the /wait would make a difference when
doing things this way Which they didn't :(

I blame the HLDSUpdateTool, and dodgy .bat files ;)

I'll keep reading and see if there are any alternatives I can use
instead of relying on sleep.

Regards,
Adam

I agree with Frazer on this one. When I need to get in to see what my
server is doing, I use RDP. VNC still isn't a true KVM solution, so
instead of adding this on top of Windows, I would prefer to use what's
built in. If you have the money, use a IP based KVM solution :)

In terms of ogsRCON, this app is simply a way to admin your server
remotely WITHOUT having to use either RDP or VNC (or any alternative).

The below is what I schedule to run at 4am every morning to perform the
HLDS Update Tool:
@echo off
d:\scripts\ogsRCon 202.58.54.105 27015 "quit" 2 net stop "POON
SRCDS"
start /WAIT d:\hlds\hldsupdatetool -command update -game "Counter-Strike

No
additional downloads or installations and security is good and
integrated.

RE: [hlds] ogsRcon Beta available for download

2006-02-14 Thread Frazer
Adam

When you use the "start" command, the process is started in its own window
and its own thread. Sometimes, this is pretty handy, if you want a bunch of
long running tasks to happen in parallel which are not dependant on each
other.

With "start", your main command process does not wait for this asychronous
process to complete, it just launches the app, then immediately proceeds to
the next statement in your bat file.

Rather than using the "start" command to start hldsupdatetool, simply try
this line:

d:\hlds\hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source"
-dir d:\hlds

And omit the "sleep 120" - its not needed

Hope this helps.

I agree with Frazer on this one. When I need to get in to see what my server
is doing, I use RDP. VNC still isn't a true KVM solution, so instead of
adding this on top of Windows, I would prefer to use what's built in. If you
have the money, use a IP based KVM solution :)

In terms of ogsRCON, this app is simply a way to admin your server remotely
WITHOUT having to use either RDP or VNC (or any alternative).

The below is what I schedule to run at 4am every morning to perform the HLDS
Update Tool:
@echo off
d:\scripts\ogsRCon 202.58.54.105 27015 "quit" 2 net stop "POON SRCDS"
start /WAIT d:\hlds\hldsupdatetool -command update -game "Counter-Strike
Source" -dir d:\hlds sleep 120 net start "POON SRCDS"

I've tried a few combinations of stop/starting the server, and this seems to
work the best. My only problem, is that if I omit the sleep statement in the
batch file, The SRCDS service tries to start back up half-way through the
hldsupdatetool running. Even if I remove the 'start' command, it still does
it.

If anyone has any suggestions to fix this, then that would be greatly
appreciated. I think I may have to code it in vbscript and just leave it at
that.

RE: [hlds] getting 1000fps on HLDS (about timers)

2006-02-14 Thread Napier, Kevin
Sounds like your default clock is 15ms (some hardware is 10ms)

There are various ways\tricks to go about changing this on a temporary basis,
some implemented as serverside apps as this issues been brought up hundreds of
times over the last five years here. hlbooster I think is the name of the most
common plugin. If your just looking to play around with setting the rate of
the mmtimer manually to specific values for testing your welcome to some test
app(s) I threw together in a vb app a long time ago.

I think this link to the .zip should still work.

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Hello!

Firstly i will start with my hardware and software:

CPU: Dual Xeon 3200 FU
Motherboard: Intel SE7520JR2ATAD2
OS: Windows XP pro SP2 (Also tried Windows 2003 server, x64 editions of
XP/2003, even tried beta version of Vista/longhorn) but the problem is still
the same. (something about NT core?)
Program: HLDS ( Half Life Dedicated Server (using sys_ticrate 1 (limit
number of updates))).
Drivers: I am using all latest drivers, system updates and firmware.

First of all i dont really know how to explain it technicaly, the thing i
will talk about is called Windows Multimedia timer / system timer / sleep
time. I am not sure about correct name, but you will understand it from my
future words, at least i hope so.
By default this timer is running on Windows systems with 16ms delay, when im
running my HLDS i am getting 64updates per second, and it addes around 16ms
in ping, i noticed that if i start media player with paused movie in same
time, i will get 512updates and around 3ms delay. That means that Windows
Media player making this timer lower. But its only 512updates, while limit
of HLDS is 1000. I was looking for a solution for a long time and finally
found! I changed ACPI driver to ACPI PC and yes! I got 100fps by default
(~5ms delay) and 1000fps and zero delay with Media Player on! It was working
perfect on my home PC with only 1 CPU. On my server with Dual Xeon it was
working also but... But it seems that only 1 CPU was working, ACPI PC isnt
that good for Multiprossesor system, i lost a lot of hardware power with it,
so i changed it bacl to ACPI multiprocessor and having only 512updates on my
server atm.
The question about my problem is:
How can i get 5ms delay or 0 delay with media player on, without losing any
hardware resources(With normal ACPI multiprocessor driver). I remember it
was good in old windows 9x times. (Maybe its possible to change timer over
regedit or over some services or get some specific driver).

- on Linux systems this problem can be solved by changing kernel ticrate to
1000HZ.

I hope to hear a solution for getting zero delay on Windows system.
Thank you!

2006-02-14 Thread Frazer
Could someone point me at any documentation or information regarding which
cvar's I use to limit weapon classes in Day of Defeat: Source?

I must commend Frazer on a brilliant little tool for those Windows servers
out there.

I am running this on my Clan server and it seems to work just fine now
(after some playing around and help from Frazer), so my primary server is
now totally hands free and I should only have to touch it when the PSU
eventually explodes!

Thanks for all your help on this Frazer, well done.

Regards,
Adam

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Hi,

I have created a download link for my little Windows rcon console
application. Current version is 0.2B.

Sorry - no fancy page - just a download. If you use it, please drop me a
note. Suggestions and other feedback welcome.

RE: [hlds] ogsRcon Beta available for download

2006-02-14 Thread Stuart Stegall
Also http://www.tightvnc.com/ TightVNC is of great help with remotely
managing servers. Mostly it greatly outperforms RDP(which has security and
performance problems).
