Swapping your name slightly every few seconds so admins cannot find
the person that needs banning. It normally chooses a name that is
incredibly close to a currently playing player.

Whether or not kids play the game isn't the issue. Valve turned off banners
because people were using inappropriate content. The inappropriate content
was offensive to adults, and went far beyond what one could reasonably
expect to find in a game rated M for mature. They may one day do something
about sprays in game, but the usage of offensive sprays hasn't become enough
of a problem for them to do anything about them. yet.

[hlds] Re: Best FTP Server for Multiple IPs?

Thanks for the suggestions.  I've been using filezilla server for my ftp.
It's working great, but the only thing I'm having problems with is the fact
that I can only connect to one of the IPs configured on my box.  When I try
to connect to the server via FTP using the other IPs, the connection
automatically closes saying that the connection was lost even before it.
Any ideas on how to fix this issue? I'm behind a firewall of course.  Thanks

I haven't tried it but I doubt they would bring it back, for cs servers at
least. from what i gather, the reason they removed the option was because
people were abusing it (using porn, obscenities, etc) and they didn't want
it to appear valve/steam was affiliated with that material. it was probably
the content server's banner you saw, not a fastdownload or hltv.

We all used to have horsepower grunt to run 66 & 100 tickrate servers, but
this is no longer the case, SRCDS on both Windows and Linux has goobled it
all up. Check the Linux SRCDS list, they are really unhappy about SRCDS
performance over on that list.

We used to be able to run 2 x 40 and 2 x 32 100 tickrate servers on our dual
core dual CPU opteron with lots of plugins, and smooth as silk.

Now we can barely manage 4 x 18 on the same hardware at 66 tickrate with
minimal plugins.

You could usually blame Microsoft for putting some patch in that has screwed
up SRCDS performance, but when its happing on Windows 2000, Windows 2003,
and various disto's of Linux on a wide variety of hardware platforms, well
whats the common factor here?

I use a filezilla server for my windows boxes.Then I use smartftp for my
client.Or filezilla client depending on what computer I'm on.


From my experience smartftp gets hellaciously over loaded on the server side

if you have logging turned on and it starts using upto 40-60Mb of ram when
its loaded.Filezilla isn't using hardly anything and its very fast.

try to turn off the HT - this splits one physical core into two virtual
and you will use then just one of them .

I use serv-u which works fine on servers with multiple ips, only thing is
the process needs restarting after adding / removing ips from the box. The
main benefit for us is that it can store user settings in the registry
making automation systems for setting up / removing ftp accounts easy.

For Windows there is a good one from Filezilla
http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/ and for Linux i prefer Proftpd.

As Client FileZilla is also a good Solution (Client and Server is not in
one Bundle - it's seperate).

I use proFTP   http://www.proftpd.org/goals.html  for winblows servers.
but i prefere pureFTP http://www.pureftpd.org/project/pure-ftpd  for every
other OS.
as far as clients go cuteFTP is the only way to go.
