[hlds] scrds issues atm.

2006-12-16 Thread Kingsley Foreman

Hi guys,

This morning all my linux css servers randomly stoped working. they would
start up but then just pause before it says connecting to steam
,
I wondering if this is caused by the steam issues atm or the box upgrade I
did yesterday.

Is anyone else having these issue under linux?

Kyle was warned. Although the entertainment level will drop with him gone,
we aren't going to miss much. I do hope, however, that the moderation
doesn't get too heavy handed. Moderation should be applied in moderation

if you look back thru the list history, he also gave a lot of good advice
for problems.. A lot more advise than valve sometimes gives.

Maybe the list admin could issue him a warning via email, request a guarantee
he won't act like an arrogant bottom hole again and spam the list with his
comments about how good he thinks he is, and if he agrees he gets re-subscribed
on the condition that if he does it again the removal is permanent.
Gives the guy a chance, but I've got to say I see enough people claiming they
think they're the best think since sliced bread, so I'd rather not have him
than have to wade through his claims.

RE: [hlds] Problems with Steam

2006-12-16 Thread Edward Luna
Some Steam services were working and some were not... apparently due to
wide-spread power outages in the area. While I can certainly understand
circumstances beyond Valve's control causing authentication and connection
problems relative to Steam servers... what I can't understand is why my stand
alone single player versions of Half-Life and Half-Life2 wouldn't work. These
are legal versions of software running on my computer with no need of Valve
intervention or authentication. Why should power problems on the other side of
the country stop me from playing a single player computer game on my computer?

*sigh*

Yes I do suck really badly at all DoDs games but not for the reasons you're
on about.

I used to play CS 1.6 - My clan was formed out of a non gaming community - a
large London based messageboard. Some of us are veteran gamers, others are
complete noobs. A lot of the fun is trying to help noobs develop their
skills over time.

We're mostly in our 30s and 40s and playing a bunch of laid back people in
the evenings is great.

Good luck with whatever you are doing, I really do mean that. I wouldn't
dream of doing what you're doing because unfortunately the type of community
you are trying to run, is there to attract the best skilled gamers.

My community is about laid back people having a laugh and fun.

Your community has to deal with a high proportion of mentally ill people up
their own backsides.

My community does not.

Each one to their own.

Cheers.

DoDs is a WW2 shoot-out game. The guest pass system is being tested on that
game AND it's a marketing ploy - a rather good and welcome one at that. It
means that I all those people in my clan, who have only CS:S can try out
DoDs on my DoDs server - they see that it's a good game and a community
atmosphere is built on my DoDs server. After a month, I can see most of them
shelling out for DoDs.and so can Valve by the looks of it.

Subject: [hlds] Guest Passes Beta Invitation

 Greetings,

As many of you are likely aware Valve has just launched a closed beta of
a new Steam feature called Guest Passes. The goal of Guest Passes is to
enable users who currently own a multi-player game to easily share a
temporary trial license with their friends who do not. This will enable
new users to try the game risk free and enable you to get your friends
 online playing with you.

As part of this beta we would like to invite all of you, our dedicated
server operator community, to participate in the beta. The requirements
for the beta are fairly simple: 1) You need Steam, 2) You need to own
 Day of Defeat: Source.

If you are interested in more information on Guest Passes please see the
 following support link:
 http://support.steampowered.com/cgi-bin/steampowered.cfg/php/enduser/std
 _adp.php?p_faqid=549

If you are interested in participating in the beta please contact
[EMAIL PROTECTED] with your Steam account name. The beta is
currently underway and should you choose to participate you will receive
notification in the Steam UI once your passes are ready for use.

Finally, we should mention that depending on the volume of responses we
may cut off participation on a first come first serve basis!

 Thanks!

 The Steam Dev Team

Ha, you didn't get a reply because the HLDS Mail List servers were
done. Glad to see that friends and VAC is back up.

Nobody else has had any VAC problems

Oh well, must just be me then

This is a lot of servers, so simply rebooting the servers is not an
option, especially when rebooting 1 or 2 does not seem to solve
 the problem.

[hlds] Valve...can we get the connect command for redirect in SCRDS?

2006-12-16 Thread Hell Phoenix

Since we no longer can run commands on the client its not possible to do
server redirection. Im sure I am not alone missing this key feature on
the DS. Would it be possible for you to add in the abilty for servers
to execute the connect command on the client or something similar?

[hlds] Mani's with Half-Life Deathmatch: Source

2006-12-16 Thread Ook

I'm trying to get Mani's to work with my dedicated source hl1mp server, and
cannot get it to start without crashing. Anyone here running hl1mp srcds and
Mani's? I would very much like to see what your configs look like.

[hlds] Guest Passes - VAC and Purchase Bug

2006-12-16 Thread Joshua Handelsman-Woolf (DogGunn)
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Hi,
I was playing around with the guest passes and happened to accidentally
redeem one myself. So, I opened up Day of Defeat: Source to notice that none
of the servers showed up as using VAC. This was using the internal in game
server browser. However using the external Steam server browser showed up as
all the servers using VAC.

Is VAC not enabled for people using the guest pass? How does it actully
work, I can't seem to find any information.

I also happened to notice after exiting DoD: Source that clicking the 'Buy
it now' button on the advertising window that pops up would redirect you to
the store page, however clicking the purchase button on the store page would
just give you an error message that you own all those games.
(steam://purchase/25)
Could it just have something to do with the the store being closed?
(The window that pops up can be found here:
http://storefront.steampowered.com/v/?gpdata=gift,onquit,25,300l=english)

Thanks,
Josh

RE: [hlds] Guest Passes - VAC and Purchase Bug

2006-12-16 Thread Alfred Reynolds
This is a side effect of the recent outage, things should clear up in
the next couple of hours (everything is back online now, some clients
have cached state that needs a restart to clear).

Lets hope the anwser is no, when players connect to a server, they connect
to that server. If I wanted to be on any other server, I would connect to
another server.
