Just so you're aware, requiring this means that its impossible to run an
RO server and a DH server out of the same dir on the same host. That is
quite a pain in the butt in our environment.

Of course hex editing changes the CRC.
VAC only checks for cheats which modify the memory, it has nothing to do
with wad, mdl, wav, mp3 or any other "legit" game files. VAC only checks for
.exe and .dll.

Re: [hlds] Wallhack or legitimate glitch?

2009-06-19 Thread krid
Hex editing CAN change the CRC, but with a weak error-detection system
like CRC it's not hard to avoid that if you know what you're doing. If all
you're trying to do is corrupt data then it's trivial at best.

The complete lack of integrity verification in CRC is one of the reasons I
assumed VAC was using something like MD5 or SHA.
Is it REALLY using CRC? o_0

I would say reaching out to the AA3 team would be the best bet for
this. It's also posible that they will release their own DS tool
rather then using Valve's tool.

Re: [hlds] Americas Army 3 dedicated server not listed on hlds tool

2009-06-19 Thread P1cwh0r3
I've asked on the AA3 forums about this but with all the crybabies going on
about the authentication servers being down it got buried before anything
was noticed.

I asked on the steampowered AA3 forums (
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=900526 ) and I got a
basic answer (albeit rather cryptic) and found some server related files in
"X:\Steam\steamapps\common\america's army 3\Binaries"

But as mentioned in the forum we might need the AA3 team to authorise the
servers.

Well, you can edit the .wad of one map with a hex editor and change the
textures names so the map can't find them. In OpenGL, you'll get pink
textures, and in D3D, you won't get any textures = wallhack.

So it sounds like the genreal consensus is that this could indeed be a
legitimate glitch. I tend to favor that based on watching this player play,
and talking with them. I've got players that rack up 80-0 scores real fast,
and while they are suspicisous I've only seen one exhibiting knowledge of
people behind solid walls. This particular case is different. The player is
not rampaging through the server killing anything that moves, so I think
