How can I set custom sound files to play during the map load process,
especially if the map is being downloaded and installed?

My serveradmin for Source claims that office crashes the server as well.
Anyone else has that experience?

Copy/Paste them to execme.cfg... Stick it in the server dir... Type exec

banned.
If you are using the global ban list from
http://70.85.25.116/banned_user.cfg then please take the time to remove
the following accounts from your banned_user.cfg:
STEAM_0:1:6555719

STEAM_0:1:4284202

STEAM_0:1:4912823
STEAM_0:1:1716825
STEAM_0:1:988502
STEAM_0:1:5860323
Here is the same set prefixed with the removeid command for easy running
on your server(s):
removeid STEAM_0:1:4973968
removeid STEAM_0:1:1123940
removeid STEAM_0:1:4284202
removeid STEAM_0:0:4167326
removeid STEAM_0:0:3277947

removeid STEAM_0:1:1716825

Is it possible that he is running some metamod application like Admin
Mod/AMX Mod that is keeping his bans in their own folder location, in
addition to the banned.cfg? Just for the hell of it, once you shut down
the HLDS Gameserver, delete ALL versions of banned.cfg, banned_users.cfg
or any other file that has "ban" in it.

This topic is now getting old...because this issue is just not this
complex. LOL!

- Original Message - From: "Clayton Macleod"

nobody said anything about shutting down your computer. That isn't
necessary. And no matter how sure you are that you've already tried
something, do exactly what I say here and you'll be fine. If you're
not, then you skipped something, and everybody should just ignore you
from now on because you're braindead.
KILL THE GAME SERVER PROCESS.
Stop thinking about the computer itself as a server. When someone says
server here, we're talking about the program that functions as the
game server. Forget about hardware, forget about the machine. Someone
says server, it means the game server program. Got it?
I think the problem here is that you've got the
banned.cfg/banned_user.cfg being execed in your server.cfg file.
Remove the line from your server.cfg that looks like:
exec banned.cfg
or
exec banned_user.cfg
Once you remove that from server.cfg, save it, and then kill the
server again. Then delete that banned_user.cfg file too. THEN AND ONLY
THEN should you start the server back up again. This way you don't
have a banned_user.cfg file to begin with, and even if you did it
won't get executed from the server.cfg file. This means you have
absolutely no way of getting any old bans back. That file is the ONLY
place they are EVER stored. If that file doesn't exist when your
server isn't running then all your bans are gone forever. Simple as
that.

RE: [hlds] Eric/Alfred: How to empty banned.cfg's cache

2005-02-28 Thread Agent 001Fox
Halflife server DOES have a cache to preserve banned ID's in case of a
servercrash.
Probably the same thing happens when there are spaces after a steam ID in
the banned.cfg.
That's why it keeps loading all those ID's everytime.
It doesn't matter if I had emptied or deleted the banned.cfg file.

If there isn't any cache for the ID's, then something else is stopping it
from getting the banned.cfg emtied.

I've run this server for three years and have worked as a computer
technitian for 5 years, so I know how to shut down a computer
(Start-Shutdown the Computer).
I'm not a 14 years newby and I've my own Community with forum, latest
Psychostats and so on.

And I do listen to people, but sometimes I've already done what is
suggested.

I do appreciate that you want to help, but everything that has been
mentioned I have already tried more than once but nothing helped.
I still have left to try out to start the server without any mods, but I'll
wait untill tomorrow morning before the server starts up so I don't have to
kick all the players.

Cheers.

Hi,
1. You NEED to COMPLETELY shut down HLDS/server
2. THEN delete/edit the banned.cfg

4. Why are you listing "exiting HLDS then shutting down server" when
they are one in the same

The mods I'm running:
StatsMme v2.8.0.15, AMX v0.9.9, MetaMod v1.17.1 and WebMod 0.47.
Going to disable them tomorrow morning and see if it helps to get a clean
banned.cfg file.
Haven't tried that before, so sounds like a good idea!

Thanx!

they may be doing something odd.

If it would be stored in memmory it should be gone when I shut down the
server (the actual computer). This is not the case.
I tried to emty it with removeid command and that helps. I check it with
listid and they are gone. Until someone get's banned again.
Then they are there again!
Frustrating...

From: "David Fencik" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
The "cache" is not stored anywhere. It is loaded into memory from the
banned.cfg file and may also be added to or subtracted from using the
addid or removeid commands.

Ok...
This is what I did:
I shut down HLDS
Emptied banned.cfg
Write protected it
Started HLDS
Wrote "writeid" in console
Got message "cannot write to banned.cfg"
Shutdown HLDS
Took away "read only"
Started HLDS
Wrote "writeid" in console
Checked banned.cfg and there were all the 188 Steam ID's again!
Pretty frustrating. :-(
The reason why I want this to work is that I cannot edit the banned.cfg file
as I want.
When I want to add a bunch of ID's they dissapear after writeid get send to
console.
Only those registrated by writeid are left in the banned.cfg file.

Sorry, I didn't realize you were talking about CS which has the file called
banned.cfg, but did you try uploading your correct banned.cfg after making
it a read only file that cannot be overwritten, then issue the "writeid"
command at console which cannot overwrite your temporary "read only"
version, but may replace the cache version stored somewhere, then re-upload
a replacement banned.cfg which has the same data, but is not read only
protected after you resolve it?

Then you are doing something wrong. Is this a lan server or are you
banning by ip maybe? Do you exec a different file that contains bans in

Basically if hlds is not running and you delete banned.cfg there is
nothing to recreate it, in a default hlds config.

I dowloaded HL Server Watch and waited until someone got banned.
And like expected it had all the Steam ID's in it when a bann occured.
I removed all through HLSW and klicked on Update and Write.

Re: [hlds] How to empty banned.cfg's cache

2005-02-26 Thread Agent 001Fox
From: "Mikee" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

That is a good question about where the ban's are stored in cache of the
server, you might look at the files that are modified most recently, such
as the the blob files. I know what you are dealing with, but I could
always resolve that cache by shutting down the server and editing the file
before restarting.
*** Sorry, but that doesn't help when I trie that... :-)
This is going to sound really insulting, which I don't mean it to
becoming from the old ban files, I did not realize at first that all
bans are now put in "banned_user.cfg" and "banned_ip.cfg" instead of the
old file names (banned.cfg & banip.cfg). I just want to make sure you are
working with the correct file because I made that mistake.
*** But when I delete the banned.cfg file it recreates
*** it again as banned.cfg and not banned_user.cfg.
*** Is this in CS Source? I have a CS 1.6 server.
If you are still having the same problem, maybe consider uploading the
corrected banned_user.cfg file after making it "read only," and then
manually type a console command to "exec banned_user.cfg" which should put
it into cache, then re-upload another non-read only version.
Like Deadman Standing suggested, the removeid and writeid might be the
easiest. My other suggestion is to just use the latest 1.0.0.41 version of
HL Server Watch (www.hlsw.net), and remove the bans from thereit is
very fast and efficient. Good Luck!
*** Downloaded the program and waiting until someone
*** get's banned to see if it works. :-)

2005-02-26 Thread Agent 001Fox
From: "Deadman Standing" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

In CS1.6 they are stored in banned.cfg . You can use removeid to
remove a player from banned.cfg and use writeid to store the current
list of banned players to banned.cfg . Ex:
removeid STEAM_0:0:23452345
writeid
*** I tried that.
*** And every time I write listid it seems OK, but
*** next time the server starts up they're all there again
You can also modify banned.cfg manually if hlds is NOT running.
Ex:
1) Stop hlds
2) modify and save changes to banned.cfg
3) Restart hlds
Note: If you modify banned.cfg WHILE hlds is running hlds may recreate
the file, especially if someone new is banned, and overwrite any changes
you made.
*** Also tried that, even had the
*** banned.cfg removed completly so it
*** had to regenerate a new banned.cfg.
*** Still no luck.

Since the server reads from banned.cfg into the cache when it starts

Because I sometimes manually update my banned.cfg I cannot get rid of some
Steam ID's.
Is there any way to empty the banned.cfg's cache? Some file I can
delete/rename or something like that?

You mean "sv_logbans 1"?
I already had tried that with no result.
But as I wrote in a previous mail I already solved it by removing
banned.cfg, restarting and exiting the server. See if this solution lasts.
Thanx anyway for all the help!

remove any reference for listid now, (comment it out of yr server
config) iirc it screws things up, at least for the moment

RE: [hlds] Strange banned.cfg behaviour

2005-01-20 Thread Agent 001Fox
My banned.cfg goes wild everytime an Admin bans someone.
The banned.cfg had over 300 SteamID's in it, but now it reduces to 147
ID's.
If I empty the banned.cfg before I start the server, they all come back
again as soon as anyone get banned.
I run CS 1.6 dedicated server with AMX installed.
Anyone who knows what can cause this?
//DiS|Fox

Mine used to do the same thing to me. I figured out a way to get around
it though. You will have to excuse my wording as I have been away from
gaming since September of 2004 and I'm just getting back into it. Here
are the steps I used to work around it.
1)While the server is running I would delete the banned.cfg.
2)After I deleted it then I would restart the server.
3)After the restart I would do a couple of map changes then check to see
if:
A)The banned.cfg had been put back.
B)If it had been put back if any bans were listed
This did not work 100% of the time but usually gave the results I wanted
after a couple of tries. I forget why I had to do it this way but it
has something to do with a global file that holds information and writes
it when ever the server crashes or restarts. When the server would
start back up it would pull the stuff from this file it had written to
it at crash including the banned.cfg information. By deleting the bans
then restarting it has no ban information to save and therefore cannot
put anything back at restart. I know that makes no sense but like I
said I've only been back playing for about 2 days now. I could be
completely confused and wrong also. If that's the case I'm sorry. I do
know that the above steps worked for me though.

Well.. I deleted the banned.cfg, restarted the server (in console), exit and
started it up again and now it seems to work!
Thanx for helping me out!
Let you know if the error comes back!
Does anyone knows the filename the banned.cfg get cached to?

This is because hlds saves all bans in memory unless commited by writeip or
writeid. It things saves it to listid.cfg and listip.cfg. I doubt that
hlds is the troublecauser here. Maybe adminmod or amxmod/x?

Do you have an AMX plugin that (tries to) manage the ban list? HLDS will
not do this by itself.

It real neat with a lot of stuff. You can have a pic of say de_dust and it
will show on the pic at your webpage where the players are. We do not use
that because it does seem to lag a full server
