Re: [hlds] [TF2] Time out at map change
Yep, as a player on some other servers I've been experiencing this as well. On Sun, 2008-11-30 at 17:51 +0100, Kim Olesen Baarsch wrote: Hi Sometimes when my server changes from one map to another, instead of going to the 'server is changing map'-screen, it will just give all clients the Lost connection to server thing in the top right corner of the screen, while the scoreboard is shown. When it is finally done counting down from 30 seconds, everybody gets disconnected, and then a couple of seconds later it has finally loaded the next map. Are anyone else experiencing this issue, and does anyone have a solution to this problem? The server is running a couple of addons, but we've only rescently experiencing this problem. setinfo name name. Works like a champ. Only catch is you have to use it after each mapchange or rejoin, but you can still change your name in-game. -- Jason On Tue, 2008-09-02 at 19:23 +0200, Maxi Hark wrote: The fact u cant change the ingame nick in tf2 and it uses the friends nick = fail imo. what if u play for several clans and dont want to tag up in your friends list? what if u want to take a funny nick? besides that, the friends-tag ingame dont work at all, shows random players as friends. and if u change your nick via console, it switches back everytime u change server / mapchange. and what if u dont want to use friends at all? imo the system used in earlier games is way better. Re: [hlds] Dedicated server issue
Listen to what earlier posters have stated, not the two most recent suggestions. The box has to own the IP you're trying to bind, otherwise the bind will fail. Just leave it with the private IP and Steam/NAT will take care of the rest. -- Jason On Fri, 2008-08-29 at 00:49 +0200, Ferenc Kovacs wrote: 2008/8/29 [EMAIL PROTECTED]: deathsquad.no-ip.info isn't an IP, it's a hostname you can bind the IP with -ip 98.16.83.188 (which is what that resolves to) but that's as far as it goes -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Rikard Bremark Sent: 28 August 2008 23:05 To: Half-Life dedicated Win32 server mailing list Subject: Re: [hlds] Dedicated server issue steam will only show your public ip and not the internal one. the DNS name can be used to join the server but steam wont show it, just resolve it. -- //Rikard 'Zapy' Bremark [EMAIL PROTECTED] Warzone Short Valley - Warzone.nu Robert Lee wrote: I am trying to see if there is a way to bind the public ip to the server. Re: [hlds] Problems connecting to server
I had this same problem just yesterday (on linux) using a standard port (27015) but a custom Steam port. The problem has magically resolved itself since the last HLDS Update Tool update (version 32). I can't explain it and nothing is different, but it just started working now. This was also only a HLDS issue, it did not affect the 2 SRCDS running on the same box. Weird. In the logs everything is started correctly, but they can't connect to the actual server. No connection attempt is shown in the server either. Can it have something to do with nonstandard port numbers? One example is a server running on port 26163. Re: [hlds] Another command to crash servers. Fuckyay.
There's a major difference between actively discriminating based on collected data and organizing collected data for use when the situation dictates it. I'm aware a later email from Tony stated that this is more of a slippery slope situation than a problem with the exact scenario at hand, but this is still worth mentioning. I view this situation, which as described by Spencer (Voogru) as well-founded and a fair use of the data. Essentially, Voogru is creating a fingerprint database for the players that pass through his servers and, when the situation shows that something has happened, he looks for a matching fingerprint. If there's no positive or there's conflicting data, then it's up to the admin to be responsible and make the correct decision (which I trust most people on this list can do). As a reactive tool, I support this completely. When it starts getting proactive, I think Tony's concerns are very tangible (as he stated regarding prejudicing against non-donators). -- Jason -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Tony Paloma Sent: Sunday, June 15, 2008 8:51 PM To: 'Half-Life dedicated Win32 server mailing list' Subject: Re: [hlds] Another command to crash servers. Fuckyay. But it's data mining. You should ask yourself if what you are doing (or asking to do) is ethical. Example data mining scenario: Ravi Singh works for one of the major credit card companies in their data-processing center. The company is continuously developing new products to offer to customers and add revenue to the corporation. He is an avid reader of the computer magazines and recently has been reading about data-mining tools that are now available for a reasonable cost. Ravi goes to his supervisor with the suggestion that their unit purchase one of these tools and use it to find out more about their customers. The information may be telling in terms of customer interest and capability. The supervisor likes the idea. After exploring the systems that are available, the unity purchases one and Ravi is assigned to explore patterns in the database of information on the company's customers and their purchasing habits. Ravi discovers that certain zip codes are highly correlated with loan defaults. These zip codes must be in low-income areas for the mined and analyzed data indicate that the company would reduce its losses significantly by refusing to extend credit to anyone living in twenty-five zip codes, while at the same time not significantly reducing their revenues. In other words, on average losses due to default generated by individuals in those zip codes were greater than revenue generated. Ravi continues with his data mining. Next he discovers a correlation between those who use their credit cards to make contributions to Hindu charitable organizations and those who charge over $40,000 a year on their credit cards. This information seems important. If the company made a special effort to solicit Hindu's as customers, it might be able to increase its revenues significantly. Ravi goes to his supervisor with the suggestion that they adopt these strategies. Has Ravi done anything wrong? If his company adopts these strategies, have they done anything wrong? -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Spencer 'voogru' MacDonald Sent: Sunday, June 15, 2008 5:18 PM To: 'Half-Life dedicated Win32 server mailing list' Subject: Re: [hlds] Another command to crash servers.
