Ok I'll respond to this just because Im tired of hearing about it, if
you would have taken the time to read what was said about the new game
(Ragdoll Kung Fu) you would have noticed Valve is not developing it. It
is being developed by a private developer. Valve is just putting it on
Steam. Yes Im sure they get royalties but they are not doing the
developing they have theyre resources spread out a little far I would
think to be bringing up anything new.

Look I understand everyone gets defensive of Valve, and usually for
good reason (they are being blamed for something stupid) but this,

on people, any new items should be turned off by
default, OR at least a warning about before I update.

I honestly dont know if it the mani version R that is
forcing people to download, or his recomended model
pack.

I have been running vacbeta since a week after release on both of our
pubs and generally anytime these guys have connection issues it always
seems to be that once they restart steam the issue is resolved. If you
see these guys get these sorts of errors and they are regs simply
suggest to them to restart steam.

[hlds] Leo Bounds NEEDS TO GO!

I have mentioned this in the past but once again I am being agitated by
[EMAIL PROTECTED] damned auto response every time I send a
message to the list.. I keep all my HLDS related e-mails filtered to my
HLDS folder  yet I always get a message from this guy in my regular
inbox regarding his antispam software mail server (Pretty insane I get
spammed by an anti spam servergo figure).its annoying he needs to
turn this off or be blacklisted on the list. I know I am not the only
person getting this from him it has to be everybody who sends a message
on this list.

will do that. Hence this is what's being requested.

Assuming each server displays the same attributes in its custom content,
(i.e. server name, server variables, max players, etc) you can still use
redirect, just make your web page accept those values as URL attributes: ex:
www.mypage.php?n=Dude;mp=12;ff=0   etc. Then have the web page take the
attributes and render them however you like. (i.e. Put the server name at
the Top of the page build tables with the values in them, put statements if
ff is on or off, etc.) So when each server generates its custom MOTD file it
puts the custom info in the redirect URL. If size is still an issue compress
it further like www.mypage.php?Dude;12;0 etc.

The page is not 23 pages long, the size is made up due to html formatting,
and is quite small, and no obtrusive graphics or any of that crap.

The motd, is generated dynamically at runtime for each server, based off its
configuration

Not sure how relevant all of these are to Psychostats but I have them
all on and  as you can see the  hit boxes work for me.  Just to re-iterate
they did not work until I recently updated psychostats via the update
tool that comes with it.

I suppose I didn't express clearly why I disliked Valve's regular updates.
I am not against updates-per-se. What I think is that these updates tend to
break many existing features instead of merely introducing new ones. It's
not just a matter of restarting the server - That would be the case if you
run a very clean Source server with no mods or 3rd party plug-ins. The
update on Friday was not the first time we've seen Valve rollback patches,
and frankly version thirty-something after a just a few months shows either
how active Valve is in updating HL2 or how shoddy it was when it was first
released.

My guess is that it is somewhere in between, but my personal bias would have
me think it is more of the latter rather than the former. While Steam is a
good way to release updates in theory, in practice it's still not that good
in handling the update load, although I would admit it's come quite far
since CS1.6 required it. I don't think each version increase represents a
significant improvement. It seems that it takes about 5-10 versions to
introduce a significant new feature. I still think that they should bundle
more features together before releasing a particular patch. It would also be
really nice if they could at least test it for 1-2 weeks before deciding
that it is stable enough to cause less heartache.

I tend to agree too that it'll be close to impossible to agree on a good day
to release updates, although it would be nice if we could fix it on one
particular day since there are so many updates that it is more than just an
occasional feature on the calendar. The hassle of maintaining Source servers
is just grossly disproportionate compared to any other game server I've
hosted, and while I might not be able to pin down one particular reason for
this, it might be due to a combination of various factors, of which I
concede that my incompetence might be one of the many.

we're talking about a multiplayer game here, not banking infrastructure,

I chuckled when I read this. Never thought I would hear someone complain
about a game company was making too many updates. If it helps Choo when an
update is released they say if it is a mandatory or an optional update.

might just try updating only when it is mandatory.

Just a side note keep in mind that CS1.6 is a product that has been on the
market for years. Mature products tend to require fewer updates.

Try updating Psychostats to the latest version. I was having the same
issue until I updated them the other day. Check out ours and you will
see the hitboxes work great now http://clangonepostal.com click on the
Wild West FF stats. We have all three log options on in config and use
the ftp setup in Psychostats if thats any help to you.

Once the roll back Mani worked again... Alfred extended an invite to authors

[hlds] sv_downloadurl

I am having a strange issue with sv_downloadurl.
It works for all the map resources textures etc.. but for some reason it
stops working when it comes to the acutal map download. It gives me a
map not found error. Has anyone had any issues with this.
Setup
Yes it is being hosted on the same box as the server but a different ip.
I can access the site by going to that ip and the corresponding folder.
The directory structure is exactly as it is in cstrike.
Any help would be apreciated thx.

[hlds] Could not establish connection to Steam servers

For some reason everytime I go to start my servers they arent connecting
to the Steam Master servers sv_region is -1 but I have tried 0 and 1 and
sv_lan is 0. I am starting to notice an influx of this on the forums.
Any word Alfred?

On the Hitbox issue if you set -tickrate 100 in startup cl_interpolate 0
and cl_interpol 1 in your config  the hit boxes line right up with the
players this has worked great for all three of my servers. I hardly ever
get people complaining about registry or hitbix issues at all anymore.
When they do they usually are just not aiming right and are usually
shrugged off.

Why can you only show the hitboxes on listen servers? That's mighty
lame. It says its because it uses a lot of bandwidth. Last time i
though about it, WE decide how much bandwidth we want to use, not
valve.

If you read the command help for sv_showhitboxes you will see that it says
shows *server side* hitboxes.  I.e. What is the player's position on the
server.  It doesn't make any sense to send that information over the wire to
the client, because that is what you already have with the position of the
player model.  Don't forget that the client runs several frames behind the
server due to latency and to allow for interpolation.

i agree with steve
the drop rate of the elite players or so called skilled players was
unbelievable
hell even if it was just logging i preferred it on
it did scare off some of the cheats
maybe its a case of its running in silent mode ie not showing up
