Re: [hlds] Cheat Engine & Report (Scott Highland)
Yes, the blank mail was an error.. I think I fell asleep with my phone in my hand and off the mail went. Pertaining to VAC, it would be handy to have a revision of how the bans are handled or perhaps handled with more expediency. Although, I understand why game development versus anti-cheating takes precedent. It is too bad we have to have such measure to begin with. Hope everyone had a happy holidays... Speaking of which if I am not mistaking someone claimed in the mailing list, the night I fell asleep with the phone in my hand, that the apostles or such did not learn to write until 64 AD or some such absurdity. It is known that Sumarian writings have been found to be as old, if not older than 2600-2800 BC. Surely everyone is familiar with the epic of Gilgamesh that are the origins of many of the great bible stories of now a days. And that the information and technology at the time was obtained from aliens. And yet my neighbor still believes man is only 2000 years old... Silly. We waited that long for the failed Duke Nuken release... Thank the aliens I bought it when it was $2.99 versus $50. Time to get ready for a New Year folks, I hope everyone has an enjoyable new year and hopefully we get another great release of a "communally conducive" game release such as TF2 and CS:S have been. Many of these new multiplayer games this past year have let us down. Re: [hlds] Cheat Engine & Report
Vac is an old system that never really worked at preventing cheats. I've never thought of delayed bans as a good idea, I can see the logic behind it, but it's just so outweighed by the fact that it basically lets people cheat, get caught, and continue to cheat for quite some time after being caught. Sometimes I don't think it even matters, Valve just ends up making more money off cheaters than regular players, I don't see how they'd care either. Re: [hlds] Cheat Engine & Report
Kicking all F2P isn't an option in my opinion, you'd be removing an entire playerbase over a few problem individuals. I also question the choice to hand out admin to players that are or claim to be female. The chance for abuse is just too high with an unknown individual; by the time anything could be done about a player abusing their mini-admin, it would have meant an ill experience for many players. I have to agree with E. Olson, valve needs something in place to prevent the creation of massive numbers of F2P accounts, I'm honestly surprised they don't already have something. When F2P was announced valve assured us that it would not mean a rise in cheaters. Quite frankly I believe they're not holding up their end of the bargan. I have no quarrel with the VAC system, it sucks that it won't do anything about cheaters right off the bat, but it's good that it prevents programmers from figuring out something is VAC detectable before some of their users are banned. Then you look back and see that TF2 is now F2P, anyone can make as many accounts as they wish, and you have to wonder what the point of having VAC is without a complimentary system to keep banned players off. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: https://list.valvesoftware.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/hlds

Well, make it a requirement that there is at least 1 game paid of +10 dollars to use F2P games... then they have to buy a game to play. (and yes, exclude humble bundle ones). I honestly think the major issue here is the fact that people seem to be able to make unlimited multiple accounts without any sort of oversight (either automated or manual). we have one particular nasty case of a player who loves to sexually harass female players, and is able to create a new account (with a dynamic IP address) and be back on our servers in under 4 minutes.
