I haven't had one hang yet on an update.

It also makes the update process crap out when it attempts to overwrite
a protected file. So unfortunately we're left copying config files
around or relying on command line parameters.

p.s. For the love of ford, trim your replies guys :)

Re: [hlds] Steam Updates & Overwriting config files

2006-04-20 Thread Kevin Ottalini

just change the mapcyclefile to a different one in the command line or in
server.cfg, then you never need to worry about it.

mapcyclefile mymaps.txt

Put your custom mapcycle in mymaps.txt.

I agree with that ...

But i dont think that valve will change that way ... Because of
releasing new maps and that they want to update it into the cycles.

What about making the files readonly ? Shouldnt that work ?

Hello,

I'm not sure if this has been touched on or not in the past... But if
so, maybe someone could point me in the right direction.

I am wondering if there's any way to stop the Steam Updates from writing
over the maplist.txt, and mapcycle.txt files when doing a HL2 or CSS
update. Also maybe a way to stop it from overwriting the server.dll file
in case someone is using a server-side mod.

I have a system for backing these up and replacing them once the update
is complete, but I was wondering if maybe there was some kind of -switch
for the hldsupdatetool for this, or maybe one could be implemented by
Valve.

Just hoping, I guess.

RE: [hlds] Steam Updates & Overwriting config files

2006-04-20 Thread Andrew Armstrong
The server configuration supports a mapcyclefile (and motdfile) variable.

 mapcyclefile mymaps.txt

Put that in your config or command line, and use mymaps.txt as your server's
mapcycle.

I think the map.txt files only get updated when there's a new map.
