I've been running my plugin basically all day today, and haven't had any
errors show up. I have a few others running it as well who will report
to me if there are any problems. If someone would like to make a
front-end for my plugin, that would be great, as the one I'm going to
provide will just be a crude example to get people started. Contact me
via email or MSN (same email) if you're interested.

I will see how much it costs me and it should be negligible, so I won't
need any donations. I will use Mysql on the windows server 2003 copy I
won at a local IT group meeting because I can do whatever I want with it
and it was free.

I have this weekend free and it should not take more than that to setup
a functional demo.

thecatacombs hosts something similar for hlds and has proven to be pretty
useful in tracking down player aliass used by cheaters. its flexible enough
to sort by ip and player lookups by won/steamid or player name.
we've easily spotted a cheater playing under one id and a quick search lead

You know, if enough server ops start getting huge player databases, we could

Just so you guys don't think I forgot all about this, I've finished the
plugin, but I'm testing it right now on one of my servers before
releasing it. If anyone wants to help out with the testing, go ahead and
send me a direct email and I'll send you a working copy. Keep in mind
that this is for SourceMod, so don't be expecting a generic server
addon, which I believe Voogru is using. It currently only supports
MySQL, but if enough people ask for a working SQLite version upon
release, I suppose I can make the plugin work for that as well.

Re: [hlds] Another command to crash servers. Fuckyay.

2008-06-15 Thread Jason Bodycott
There's a major difference between actively discriminating based on
collected data and organizing collected data for use when the situation
dictates it. I'm aware a later email from Tony stated that this is more of
a slippery slope situation than a problem with the exact scenario at hand,
but this is still worth mentioning.

I view this situation, which as described by Spencer (Voogru) as
well-founded and a fair use of the data. Essentially, Voogru is creating a
fingerprint database for the players that pass through his servers and, when
the situation shows that something has happened, he looks for a matching
fingerprint. If there's no positive or there's conflicting data, then it's
up to the admin to be responsible and make the correct decision (which I
trust most people on this list can do). As a reactive tool, I support this
completely. When it starts getting proactive, I think Tony's concerns are
very tangible (as he stated regarding prejudicing against non-donators).

Subject: Re: [hlds] Another command to crash servers. Fuckyay.

But it's data mining. You should ask yourself if what you are doing (or
asking to do) is ethical.

Example data mining scenario:

Ravi Singh works for one of the major credit card companies in their
data-processing center. The company is continuously developing new products
to offer to customers and add revenue to the corporation. He is an avid
reader of the computer magazines and recently has been reading about
data-mining tools that are now available for a reasonable cost. Ravi goes to
his supervisor with the suggestion that their unit purchase one of these
tools and use it to find out more about their customers. The information may
be telling in terms of customer interest and capability.

The supervisor likes the idea. After exploring the systems that are
available, the unity purchases one and Ravi is assigned to explore patterns
in the database of information on the company's customers and their
purchasing habits.

Ravi discovers that certain zip codes are highly correlated with loan
defaults. These zip codes must be in low-income areas for the mined and
analyzed data indicate that the company would reduce its losses
significantly by refusing to extend credit to anyone living in twenty-five
zip codes, while at the same time not significantly reducing their revenues.
In other words, on average losses due to default generated by individuals in
those zip codes were greater than revenue generated.

Ravi continues with his data mining. Next he discovers a correlation between
those who use their credit cards to make contributions to Hindu charitable
organizations and those who charge over $40,000 a year on their credit
cards. This information seems important. If the company made a special
effort to solicit Hindu's as customers, it might be able to increase its
revenues significantly.

Ravi goes to his supervisor with the suggestion that they adopt these
strategies. Has Ravi done anything wrong? If his company adopts these
strategies, have they done anything wrong?

Heh, I'm a statistical whore. I like to know everything I can, and it's
particularly useful against players who abuse my server.

For example, in one instance, Tony Paloma had some jackass lagging his
server with an exploit, a quick check of the source of the malicious traffic
coupled with the players IP instantly available with a simple query resulted
in him finding out who the culprit was.

That is why I store everything I possibly can, it always comes in handy
later.

Besides, every server logs this data in the server logs, I just make it
accessible easily.

I am sure amny people here could make somethign like this, just provide
a list of what info needs to be aggregated on a single server and if
noone else wants to do it, I will setup a database, and I will write a
program that collects this info from your server and inputs it into that
database for anyone interested to use. Of course if your idea is stupid
and no one will join in you are wasting your time.

True (though it could lead there with player donations and what not). I'm

Re: [hlds] Another command to crash servers. Fuckyay.

2008-06-15 Thread Tony Paloma

Just so you guys don't think I forgot all about this, I've finished the
plugin, but I'm testing it right now on one of my servers before
releasing it. If anyone wants to help out with the testing, go ahead and
send me a direct email and I'll send you a working copy. Keep in mind
that this is for SourceMod, so don't be expecting a generic server
addon, which I believe Voogru is using. It currently only supports
MySQL, but if enough people ask for a working SQLite version upon
release, I suppose I can make the plugin work for that as well.

a MySQL DB), and will release it on the SM forums when I finish it. If
enough people want, I'll reply again with a link when it's finished.

Well, anything can be done with SourceMod if you make the proper C++
extensions.

But I don't feel like writing hundreds of extensions, I just want to code :)

What can't be done through SourceMod?

Indeed it does have threaded sql implementations.
SourceBans already provides a ban system similar to yours, a command
blocker plugin could be written in 5 minutes and the stat tracking (or
what i've seen of it) would be relatively simple to implement.
We haven't had any requests for this sort of thing yet but if there ever
was a serious demand, I'm sure someone could write plugins for this.

max out. I delete users after 30 days and never once cleared the stats

Re: [hlds] Another command to crash servers. Fuckyay.

35MB total.

The 3 largest tables are:

"players":
(internal playerid, first name used, last name used, IP, Steam ID,
connections, last connection), 153,000+ records @ 17.7MB.

This is every player who has ever been on any of my servers.

"playernames":
Every name a player has used and when he last used it. 145,000+ records @
8.3MB (I started tracking every name a few months after).

"playersessions":
Every session a player has done on my server, contains their internal
playerid, the amount of seconds the session lasted, and the time and date
the session ended. 406,000+ records @ 9.5MB, I only started recording this
data since March 14th 2008. I use this data to build graphs to keep track of
the amount of player hours on a daily basis.

Keeping track of players that play on my server has been proven to be quite
useful on several occasions.

Re: [hlds] Another command to crash servers. Fuckyay.

2008-06-09 Thread Spencer 'voogru' MacDonald
My whole ban system, player database and admin system my plug-in runs is a
quite large amount of code, I don't use any 3rd party plug-ins, the only
thing I use is metamod.

I have built an entire administration system, MySQL database with every
player who has ever stepped on my server, the tracking of every single
player on my servers, how many times they've connected, their last IP
address, every name they've ever used, how much time in seconds they've
played, every session they've played on my server, etc. It also has
automatic handling of donations, subscriptions, reserved slots, etc etc.

It's not just one little plug-in I can give out unfortunately.

With regards to the ban exploit system, I essentially have a command to hook
a server command, it takes two arguments , for example in
server.cfg I have

bancommand ai_test_los "Exploit: Test LOS Exploit"

When a player attempts to run it, they get banned with that reason, so any
time a new command is found, I just add it to my server.cfg and exploiters
get banned automagically.

to see how many people run the command on our servers and I want to get rid
of the ones that would offend our servers like that.

very nice, it will work great with my 32 man dods beta server.

maybe if you have time you could get this afk manager working it seems
dubbeh took off. it doesnt work with the dod:s beta and
afkm_min_players_kick_spec isnt working with tf2 and probably other mods.

Coldorak: I don't quite have my community site jigger (doublezen.net)
setup. But most of what i've posted have been exploit fixes that have
long since been patched, and a few *cough* antidelist things. If

He removed his shortid (hence, cannot be found) and made his profile
private (hence, the second message). If there's no 'make private'
button it's possible that valve did it for him. At this point though,
honestly, leave him be. I didn't expect you guys to all be as nutty as

Different errors.

He's done *something* to his profile (since the last id is based on
steamid and therefore unique to him)

Re: [hlds] Another command to crash servers. Fuckyay.

2008-06-08 Thread Nephyrin Zey
If anyone is wondering, I found this command by loading up core dump
in gdb. Most all console commands have functions named after them, so
the backtrace in this case:

#0 0xf53fabb9 in ai_test_los ()
   from /home/tf1/hlds/tfbase/orangebox/tf/bin/server_i486.so
#1  0xf5b01ed0 in ConCommand::Dispatch ()
   from /home/tf1/hlds/tfbase/orangebox/tf/bin/server_i486.so
