 Alfred I need your help...

I was looking thru some archives and noticed some linux server
operators having this problem where a large amount of players would
get dumped off the server. It would look like clients were
disconnecting normally from the server, but they were all really
getting an Illegible server message - svc_bad error message in
their consoles. Anyway, it's been happening a lot on the win2000
dedicated CS server I run. It happens at random times and I can't
pinpoint the cause. I looked in the steam forums but nothing seemed
to apply, at least from those fixes I tried. I just wanted to know if
there was ever a fix found for this, or if a cause was ever found.

In those threads, it was asked to send the error message to Alfred
directly. I did that but go no response.

Vit,
What type of router / modem is your server running behind?

Linksys routers and Actiontec modem/routers have been known to cause this.

It also happens to my players and my server very often. My server is set up on
Linux Debian with 2.4 kernel. And yes, I know this is a win list - I just
wanted to let you know this isn't platform specific bug.

As it happens in bursts (for example two-three times on a single map and then
it's steady for a couple of hours) I guess it could be related to player
joining. Maybe it's some kind of malformed packet sent at the time the player
is connecting to the server.

I was trying to pinpoint this problem for last 6 months but this action seems
so random sometimes. It's really hard to do so and the bug is so irritating.
I hope someone will come up with a solution in the near future.

I have been running AMX and AMX Mod X. Maybe it's releted to those products or
even metamod. I really can't say. The problem occurs on the client side so
the logs are useless - you have to experience this yourself to even see the
error message.

No, we run servers without those and it still happens (natural selection)

could it be something as simple as the characters in the players name - if
they are in a certain order it will cause the players to drop.

This problem is why I stopped playing CS 1.6. I would get the svc_bad error
and get dumped from 1.6 atleast once a day. Also, I would get lagged out by
a flush_entity packet and have to do a consoledump to stay connected to the
server I was on about ever half hour or so. This would only happen when I
played out of my lan network, when I play inside my lan I do not get this.
In CS:CZ my brother-in-law now has this problem when he connects to my
server which never happened before (he is outside my network). I do not
have this problem in CS:CZ or Source.

Just some info...
