I'm not 100% certain, but I think right now just one. I think the
secure-global bans only last 24 hours right now. Once we get more
comfortable with the way the system is working, both of these
variables will probably change. Other than that, I don't really know
the specifics. Any change in the way the ban system works will
probably be announced by Erik or Eric, who are out this week and have
left me on module PR duty. :)

I'm another one that's been on the list a long time and hasn't
been following it for a while, too. I still run my cstrike server
and update it a little later than everyone else... :)

Will 27011 have to be open for inbound connections, or just be able
to receive replies on server initiated outbound connections?

Thanks...

release to implement VAC, and client releases take time to do (lots of
testing needs to be done, and people hate upgrading every 2 months).

Hi Adam,
Pingboost 3 was pretty unusable for me, it caused lag from hell at times.
And this was on a 1.1 ghz server with up to 8 players!
I use pingboost 2 and it helped lower peoples pings by 10 to 20 with no
noticable lag increase and cpu was about the same as well.

We've updated the BETA security modules again (see #4 below to set your
server up to use these). Changes for these modules include:

- Detection of OGC 10.1b, Joolz, and GoldFinger.
- Fixed secure-global bans not taking effect sometimes.
- Fixed secure-global banned players being allowed to connect to secure
servers sometimes.

thought it was due to something within AdminMod. For some reason, when
we
uninstalled AdminMod and Metamod, the problem would disappear. Then,
after
HLDS 1106 or some old patch like that or 1108, the problem existed even
without AdminMod and Metamod.

The problem was finally diagnosed as a simple thing like adding
maxplayers
to the server.cfg which would be larger than the default (6) or anything
defined in the autoexec.cfg. I believe it had something to do with
resource
alocation in that HLDS alocates a specific amount of resources as the
server
starts up based on command line parameters and the autoexec.cfg. When
the
server.cfg requests more, it has unexpected results.

So, before jumping to conclusions like "it's HLGuard's wallhack block",
people should re-look at the issue because it could very well be not
HLGuard. I would look at what you set in your server.cfg and
autoexec.cfg
files first. There could very well be a setting in that server.cfg that
is
causing this issue.

[hlds_linux] New beta security modules - August 28

2002-08-28 Thread Leon Hartwig

We've updated the BETA security modules again (see #4 below to set your
server up to use these). Changes for these modules include:

- Detection of OGC 10.1b, Joolz, and GoldFinger.
- Fixed secure-global bans not taking effect sometimes.
- Fixed secure-global banned players being allowed to connect to secure
servers sometimes.

1) This beta test is only for Counter-Strike servers...not Day of Defeat.

2) Anyone detected cheating during this beta test *may* get banned for it,
but only for the duration of the beta test. This means if you test a cheat
on your server while running the beta modules, you might find yourself
banned from your own server. At the end of the beta test, we'll clear the
bans that were collected before releasing the modules publicly.

3) We're no longer using port 27013 for the ban list. You will now see
traffic (in/out) on port 27011. This traffic is to/from the ban list
server. Make sure you have this port open in your firewall.

4) The password for the beta modules is "vactest", so make sure you have...

-testmodule vactest

...in your command line and restart your server.

Let me know if you have any problems with these modules and we'll look into
them right away. Thanks for helping out.

Take it somewhere else guys. Jeremy, Houndawg was asked you to contact
him privately about this.

I'm sure the whole drama has been caused by a simple misunderstanding.

I know just replying is easier, but it's starting to piss me off, and
no doubt others are getting tired of it aswell.

END THIS THREAD.
