RE: [hlds_linux] Steam linux release

2003-07-21 Thread Alfred Reynolds
Note that the higher bitrate settings could be an issue for modem clients.
If you see a lot of clients disconnected due to being overflowed then lower
your sv_voicequality setting.

RE: [hlds_linux] Steam linux release

2003-07-21 Thread Erik Johnson
There is also a new voice codec we're testing out. The codec that a client
uses is determined by the server, so use this command on your server to
switch over to using the new one:

sv_voicecodec voice_speex

And then these commands to change between different quality voice streams:

sv_voicequality 1 : 2400bps, lowest quality
sv_voicequality 2 : 6000bps
sv_voicequality 3 : 8000bps
sv_voicequality 4 : 11200bps
sv_voicequality 5 : 15200bps, highest quality

We'd be interested in any feedback that people have on this.

[hlds_linux] Operons using 32bit linux?

2003-07-21 Thread jeremy
Is it even possible to run 32bit linux under operons? If so is anyone here
running multiple hlds and 32bit *nix now? If so what kind of performance are
you getting compared to xeons and AMD MP's?

I can get a dual Operon 240 for about $400 more then a dual 2400MP and am
debating the price versus performance on this one. The HUGE cache on the
Operon is very tempting but it being only 1.4ghz worries me.

Thanks

RE: [hlds_linux] [OT] A Good Web based query tool

2003-07-21 Thread McCormack, Chris
I wrote an irc bot a while ago that used a udp socket (all java) that would
query an ip and port range for listening servers and return the infostring
and current player details per server.
It wouldn't be too difficult to embed the socket class in a .jsp scriptlet
if you so desired and call it from a webserver. But be careful though, if it
was left on an unsecured server a script kiddy may be able to hack it to be
used to as a portscanner :P

If you are interested let me know and I will dig about for the code (on cd
somewhere).
