Re: [hlds_linux] Alfred...another update today?
I rarely see that in this mailing list, but I'd be okay with that. ;-) I'll put something similar to that on most all my messages, just in case. Even then, I'd really prefer it in my inbox (except in this case, where we might be able to get our point across) to keep it clutter-free. Re: AW: [hlds_linux] Counter-Strike: Source update released
I agree, valve used to be good to the community, and in many ways still are. They are the one to stride for when it comes to company-community interactions, and that on several levels. I've been on this list since 2000 and there is no other company that can messure to the support we have got. On top of that you have a exelent plugin API (at least for hlds), easy command interface and they have made a stand against cheaters. But lately the quality of all this have gone downhill. The latest hlds upgrades have been a pain in the ass for us, counting from the first upgrade this year. (around may/june) Thats when I started to see a higher choke problems and reported it to the list. Apperently noone else had this issues, so I dropped it and thought it had something todo with my servers or network. Then a couple of month later when Valve released a new patch, that introduced threading I started to get a lot of crashes. On a normal day we got around 60 crashes, but all time high was about 80 crashes. I reported it in and still noone on the list had any problems. Now we are up to the v24-v27 crash issues. And everyone started to see crashes. And even those crashes that I reported months earlier. I would suggest that Valve get someone to go through all the code from each patch they released and se whats wrong. Hopefully they have a CVS of some kind. Even with these latest problems, I still consider Valve to be the one that every other gamecompany should copy from. A lot of developers have tried to integrate admin systems or improve serverside setups. Epic, Dice and even ID have a long way to go on these issues. Serveradmins want simplicity on setting up a server. Gameadmin wants simplicity to administrate a gameserver. I cant find any game that matches these points exept them from valve. /Bjorn On Sat, 3 Dec 2005, LuZiFeR wrote: You are right, when you find fault on valve with their Test-Equipment (Kernel-Tests on Update)... [hlds_linux] Segmentation Fault by steam-update
Mmh, thats a bad joke with this update. I tested some older kernels, upgraded to newest and verified that the correct glibc is on the server. No chance to get the steam-update to run without a segmentation fault. A segmentation fault is as a I now, if a pointer points to invalid memory. That seems as a programming mistake and not a mistake with a wrong kernel-version. The solution is, to become the updated server-files from another source as with this tool. Is there a place where I can download this sever-fils manually? Because the server is too old for the new client update, I can only cross my fingers that the next days a new steam version is released which fix this problem. -- Frank Arnold _ The 4damind Project at http://4damind.com Arnisoft at http://arnisoft.com Phone: +49 30 47472330 Mobile: +49 0172 3121383 eMail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

[hlds_linux] small bug concerning the help page
I discovered a small bug concerning the help page. If you open it in-game (by options - help), it will display the help page wrong. All letters will be in one vertical row, instead of normal sentences. The next time you open the help, all is normal. It's not an important bug. Don't do that, it would be one quick way to corrupt your installation. Manuel kindly gave me access to his machines that have this problem and I have confirmed it.
