FastDL servers are servers that have to be paid for and maintained at
some level. It would be nice to have someone else foot that bill but
it seems a bit unfair to ask someone to forever host all popular
maps, at no cost.

I think less than having some sort of public fast DL server operated
by Valve, a better idea would be to just more aggressively absorb the
popular maps as official ones. In TF2 we get a community map that
goes official every 10 or so updates, and at this point there's about
30 stock maps that come with the game. If this was done more
frequently, it would give all players access to the new content as
well as remove the need for some sort of public repository for maps.

[hlds_linux] Friends on server showing internal ip when trying to join..

Hello !

This is concerning TF2 and dods gameservers.

We have 4 servers on one public ip (machines).

The problem:

If I open friendslist and trying to join the server my friend is in and 
that server have +IP 192.168.1.1 in the startline, then I cant join ..


The same happens if I open the Server list and using the Friends tab.

This have been working and we have had hlds/srcds servers here since 
early 2k / before steam ...


Is there any command that can be used in startline or cfg files that can 
solve this ?
We have now only the gameport forwarded to the servers, maybe we can 
bind cl port or something ?

[hlds_linux] [TF2] Hats not appearing in some servers.

Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone else is having a problem where some hats are
not showing up for clients.  Players are reporting that they cannot see a
lot of hats or other cosmetics on other players, but they can see them on
other server.  I have search through the interwebs and found a lot of posts
about people wanting hats or the drop rate... nothing like this.  I am not
sure if it is a client issue or a server one or if there is something I can
do to fix it.

More info on when this is happening:
Some times I will see a hat that others cannot see and vise-versa.  Some
times the hat will appear fine one second, then when the player dies and
re-spawns the hat is gone.  The clients cannot see their own hats when they
taunt as well.  I have updated the install with -verify-all in case maybe
for some reason the server was missing model and causing this issue, but it
did not work.  Any ideas?

Not just hats -- we've had a problem with items as well (invisible/ missing
flamethrowers seem to be common).

Its a known bug that hats will sometimes not show until the second time a
player hits a resupply cabnet.
There's a sourcemod plugin by EHG that fixes that.

This might be part of your problem with hats sometimes being visible.

I have the occasional problem of an entire enemy solly(yes only that class)
going invisible for a single spawn but i'll only see it 1 or twice a week,
possibly related. I'm pretty interested in the sm plugin you mentioned, do
you have a direct link I cant seem to find it on allied.

Every time I read this on those mailing lists, I start thinking: how many are 
there out there that are known and still wait for some solution. I know a 
couple I encountered myself/read here or on spuf or other places, and those I 
encountered I have reported, but only a very small amount of those are ever 
addressed. Its like a stopgap: only repairing what ppl are most complaining 
about... I often wonder if Valve is even running some form of a 
bug-tracking/prioritizing system and even if so, that they are assigned a 
priority level instead of the default valve time to solve.

Sure sure, I know the game is 4 years old, and still receives regular updates 
and I should be glad for that etc. But its their big cash earner, and those 
updates should therefore contain fixes for a bunch of the reported ones. I even 
wont start on the promised to fix stuff that never came so far, in spite 
being said months ago or even last year.

And in regards to this specific known bug, it should be turned into a 
optional client sided feature in regards to the hats, paint and their effects 
individually. I really have no desire to see a Lime painted Dapper topper with 
some effect on it. Make it a graphical performance option.

Not sure if his plugin is supposed to fix all of the hats and items not
showing, but it does not seem to be working.  I have installed it and still
have a few items not showing up.  Haven't tested all of the hats of course,
but one of the first one tested did not show, even after lots of respawns
and going to the cabinets.  The Heavy's hounddog hair/hat is not working and
probably lots more.

As said before by a few people, this is a known issue.  Any stance on Valve
whether this is a bug that *may* get fixed or if this is an undocumented
feature that is here to stay.  After all, hats and items are their only
source of income for this game now.  It would be nice to have them show up
100% of the time when they are equipped.

If the map has a model of the hat somewhere in it, then the hat will never
show up on players. It depends what type of entity the hat is, though. I
think the problem only affects prop_dynamic_override entities.
