Re: [hlds_linux] Mysterious server crashes
lorph we don't have it on right now so he is just being stupid lorph not sure why some aussie needs to get his panties in a bunch when we don't have any servers in australia Quite a few large communities still run fake clients with ease... Mind you it's changed from faking player counts to having actual bots playing disguised as real players. Will this change? Probably not. Even if Valve tries something client side, their content/login servers die every time an update hits regardless of the size. With how poorly 'P2P' authentication was implemented, I'd be worried if they tried anything to be honest. Just keep going around in circles, the end result is nothing will change either due to lack of investment or effort. Kyle. Re: [hlds_linux] Optional TF2, DoD:S, and HL2:DM update released
The reason why you are seeing so many quickplay players now is because most people haven't rebooted their servers to fix the account : not logged in (Cannot locate owner's steam account) problem that happened after the update yesterday. Re: [hlds_linux] Optional TF2, DoD:S, and HL2:DM update released
My server hasn't been struggling for quickplay players the past month. But, I have noticed that it seems like immediately following a server reboot the quickplay system is more likely to feed you a bunch of players. For example, my server was empty for about 10 hours last night during off peak hours throughout which the status showed as logged in. Since it was still empty this afternoon I rebooted the server and grabbed the optional update, after which the server filled up nearly instantly. Yeah there appears to have been some change for clients that won't see servers now unless they are updated - I've got 3 servers showing up with another that isn't cause it won't update for some odd reason and quickplay isn't an option on a few of these since I don't have a few registered however one that is filled up in about 2 mins after updating. -Original Message- From: hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com [mailto:hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com] On Behalf Of Russell Smith Sent: Wednesday, November 30, 2011 4:41 PM To: hlds_linux@list.valvesoftware.com Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] Optional TF2, DoD:S, and HL2:DM update released My server hasn't been struggling for quickplay players the past month. Re: [hlds_linux] Optional TF2, DoD:S, and HL2:DM update released
Sometimes the error not logged in (Cannot locate owner's steam account) bumps in middle of the map, disconnecting the server from steam but sometimes it automatically connects back after map change. I also had one server sitting without connect to steam servers but after reboot it connected back just fine. All it takes is 1 player at the server to get it filled up or someone joining it and matchmakign starts bringing up more players. Yesterday after the mandatory update, i kinda was pretty quick to update and all servers went full asap from players all around the world. It's just luck mostly but having positive reputation score seems to help. Doesn't matter if it's 1 or 10 million but having that positive is the key. For example i have one server which has only 100k while the other has 6,8 million and still the 100k one is far more popular and full earlier than the other. Maybe because it's pretty new (~4 months or so) and the other is pretty much old as TF2. -ics 30.11.2011 23:41, Russell Smith kirjoitti: My server hasn't been struggling for quickplay players the past month. [hlds_linux] L4D2 sv_password bug
Hello. I noticed people had reported about this bug here before a couple of times but this bug yet to be addressed until now. It also does this if sv_cheats 1 is set. I'm not sure if this is desired behaviour since neither of these convars are really meant to be altered for l4d2 servers. Folks. It's a closed beta at first. That means, no dedicated servers will be available during the time of the closed beta. Re: [hlds_linux] L4D2 sv_password bug
I brought this up a few times when L4D first came out, because I wanted to be able to password protect a server. I don't think Valve considers this a bug. They simply don't want you to use sv_password in L4D or L4D2. I think what it boils down to is that they don't want you to take a server out of the matchmaking system. They added the shared key and Steam Group stuff, and using them together you can lock a server down pretty well, but it's far more convoluted than setting a password. - Dave -Original message- From: James Botting bottswan...@googlemail.com To: Half-Life dedicated Linux server mailing list hlds_linux@list.valvesoftware.com Sent: Thu, Dec 1, 2011 02:41:16 GMT+00:00 Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] L4D2 sv_password bug It also does this if sv_cheats 1 is set. I'm not sure if this is desired behaviour since neither of these convars are really meant to be altered for l4d2 servers. On 1 Dec 2011, at 00:42, Amer stalker...@gmail.com wrote: Hello. It appears that when you have sv_password set, server doesn't respond to a2s queries thus causing it to appear offline in server browser like hlsw until you unset the password. Can we have someone at valve to look into this and get it fixed? ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

I meant to say I'm sure this is desired behaviour. Sorry for any confusion.
