Re: [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released

2012-08-03 Thread Frank
Apparently there are some serious issues going on here from this update -
the sapper can reduce the level of the sentry but the health of the sentry
just gets amazingly enhanced.
So much to the point that if you continue the cycle it can get well over
4000+ health. That isn't the half of it, I've seen so far a few Windows
servers and Linux servers crash from the sapper being used so something is
certainly an issue for server operators in regards to the new items players
now have. On another note since I'm raising concerns the trading system is
still the same as it was months ago when the old trading method (in game)
was removed - I remember someone at valve suggesting they would return the
old trading method as a reliable option but several months have passed and
it is still a concern with many of my players.

dubious distinction of having the Internet's last remaining Cold Ice server
still running. Does anyone have any idea what happend to the mod makers, and
maybe where the source can be found? The mod team fell apart and everyone
went their own ways and we all lost touch with each other. I've given
serious thought to making a HL2 version of Cold Ice.

Do you have the Linux server file? I have Cold Ice 1.1 and 5.2 Windows, but
would like to install this on my Linux server. I can't seem to find it.

Thanks,
robin

I don't think they ever built a linux binary, at least I never saw it.
Cold ice was popular 10+ years ago, but I don't think many of us were
running linux back then for our HL servers, as the linux binaries were
performance pigs, and our hardware wasn't very fast. The latest install
file for cold-ice is a windows executable and it only installs windows
DLLs.

Just out of curiosity, how many of us were running servers under linux
ten years ago? My coldicesetup.exe setup file is dated June 2001

I have the source, but can't remember where I put it - that is more than
a bit annoying, as I had the latest unreleased version. I even found the
old OZ files, but for some reason my cold-ice files are missing...I'm
going to have to root around a bit and see where I put it, I may have
burned it to CD and put it somewhere where it would be easy to find -
which is why I can't find it. Let me see what I can find

The last time I tried to get it to work, it would not work with the
latest hlds, even without the bots. Someone else reported that they got
it running without bots, so YMMV.

Nag me in a day or two if you don't hear from me, I have a stack of
backup CDs on my desk but it is going to take some time to go through them.

Re: [hlds_linux] Mandatory TF2 update released

2012-08-03 Thread Mart-Jan Reeuwijk
its pretty simple:
- build a sentry and go to level 3, or other building.
- sap it with the red tape
- let the sentry downgrade to level 1, unsap it and upgrade it again to level 3.
- higher health is the result of this

To crash the server:
- Sap the enhanced building (method above) with a NORMAL sapper

near weekend...

I haven't had any reliability issues with Steam Trading lately, I don't know
what you're experiencing. It has come a long way since the old method was
removed.

The only possible concern I have with it now is that it uses the Steam Overlay,
which can be disabled. It can also crash, which has happened to me a few times,
and I had to completely restart the game.

The previous update (or the latest one) that was released for HL1, does it
prevent plugins like xredirect from working?

The base dedicated server had no previous beta, so yes, this is includes
everything from before it. The counter-strike client and dedicated server still
have a separate beta, that beta is a different set of files, you could still
opt into that (with -beta hlbeta).

Nice !

Are all the the previous fixes included - like the beta fix ?

Am 31.07.2012 19:27, schrieb Alfred Reynolds:
We have released an update to Half-Life 1 dedicated servers. This update
fixes a potential vulnerability in the challenge/response protocol uses for
out of band queries (in particular A2S_RULES and A2S_PLAYERS responses). The
update also fixes sprays not functioning correctly when new users join a
 server.

Also as a reminder, we will be disabling the older heartbeating protocol
later this week so you need to update to be listed on the master server. This
change only effect the server side, any clients (i.e server list generators
or management tools) will be unaffected by this change.
