Re: [hlds_linux] Petition Valve to add force installs option to SteamCMD

2013-07-12 Thread Ook
I brought this up a while ago, and I would still love to see it. What
does it matter what platform SteamCMD is currently running on? If I ask
to download l4d2 for linux, do it, damn it, don't give me "I'm sorry but
you are on winbloze and we know you really didn't mean to download linux
files".

Would anyone else like this option (more support is better for a
request) or knows of a way besides using WINE to force installs of
games/game servers?

Re: [hlds_linux] Petition Valve to add force installs option

2013-07-12 Thread SLUGSoc Tech Admin
Yes, this was with a view to caching the windows files or downloading
them to a linux server. In particular, I am after the ARMA2 / OA files
for the linux version of the server which still needs the windows server
files but currently have no method of acquiring them short of using
Wine, setting up a VM or transferring them from a windows server (which
I do not currently have on the local LAN.)

You didn't read the OP right... he asks for support of this*without*
using wine, so he can use steamcmd on Linux to download both the Linux
and Windows server files.

I agree, this would also save a lot of headaches for plugin devs who
need both Windows and Linux/OSX server binaries... although plugin devs
only really need server_srv.so/.dll or server.so/.dll depending on the game.

I support this feature. I've tried installing a windows distribution on a
linux environment before with no success. The intention was to make a
server to recieve updates and pass them through FTP to the correct platform.

Well, -fork starts with a hyphen, so it goes (= has to go) on the
command line. Only those options that are console variables/commands
(and therefore start with a plus when specified on the command line)
can go into a cfg file.

Blame it on the Quake heritage. ;-)

Coming back on this item, with forked servers for l4d2, it seems you
cannot use server_cfg##.cfg and then -fork 8 inside an +exec command at
the end.

Does this mean that any commands with ## for fork support needs to go in
the commandline?

To elaborate on what Fletcher is saying, change your command-line to:

screen -A -m -d -S tradeunusual ./srcds_run -debug -game tf -port 27015
-replayserverdir tradeunusual -maxplayers 32 -pidfile
~/tf/tradeunusual.pid -autoupdate -steam_dir /home/lzgames/steamcmd/
-steamcmd_script /home/lzgames/steamcmd/tf.txt -insert_search_path
tf/servercustom/trade
+exec commandline_tradeunusual.cfg

Note the lack of +xxx commands and the addition of the final +exec
commandline_tradeunusual.cfg. Create a file called
commandline_tradeunusual.cfg, and fill it with:

servercfgfile server_tradeunusual.cfg
ip 144.76.59.36
clientport 27030
motdfile motd_tradeunusual.txt
sv_logsdir logs_tradeunusual/

mm_pluginsfile addons/metamod/metaplugins_tradeunusual.ini
sm_basepath addons/sourcemod_tradeunusual

exec autoexec_tradeunusual.cfg

map trade_post_a34

Kind regards,
Saul Rennison

This is currently not possible but it would probably be a nice
feature. I personally wouldn't use it though.

[hlds_linux] Petition Valve to add force installs option to SteamCMD

2013-07-12 Thread SLUGSoc Tech Admin
I recently sent in a request to Valve about SteamCMD and an for an
option of forcing installs of servers even if it is the "wrong platform."
I've had a look round to see if this is already an option and couldn't
find it, so either documentation needs improvement or a request for this.

Would anyone else like this option (more support is better for a
request) or knows of a way besides using WINE to force installs of
games/game servers?

Cheers,

James (SLUGSoc Server Admin)

The quick-fix thing was a coincidence.

Somehow our server keeps crashing near the end of the cp_process map. The other
new map it plays through nicely. The crash occurs each time near the end of
process but I can't figure out how to replicate it.

Has anyone notice the server crashing with the quick-fix bug?

One of our players said he just got the bug and seconds after the server went
down.

I can confirm the Quick-Fix bug. Was able to replicate it myself.
