Chris (or anyone else),

Do you have the instructions for setting up the Steam.cfg file, or could
you direct me to where to find them? It's been a couple weeks now that
my server's been down because I can't get it updated due to this error.

Thanks.

I have tried the update as root for the heck of it, and get the same
results. I run the network that the server is on, so it would have to be
something that the ISP (Level3) blocked I guess. Is there a way I can
know which servers / IP addresses it wants to connect to and possibly
the ports so that I can try and determine if the ISP blocked something?

Thanks.

Thanks... I'll take a look through the archives.

I actually moved to a new directory, re-downloaded the update tool, and
then pointed it to the original install directory for my server and it
worked! Something must have gotten screwed up with the original
install... or something.

Yes, I have tried removing the file completely. Also, after I edit the
file to remove the extra characters, if I cat the file, it looks
correct. As soon as I run the server and cat the file again, it once
again has the ^...@. Seems pretty strange.

Have you tried removing the file altogether and creating a new

delete the ^@ as they are a part of the file encoding, so if you don't
change the encoding format they will just return after you save it ;)

 Hi,

no matter what map I chose my l4d server only has 4 Players.

I've not yet really figured out how the l4d system works. Is there
somewhere a website or wikiwhatever where this is explaned (how much
players at what map, how to change the gamemode etc)?

 Command Line:
 ./srcds_i486 -console -fork -game left4dead -port x -maxplayers 8
 -ip xx.xx.xx.xx +map l4d_airport01_greenhouse

[hlds_linux] L4D - Odd Server Issues

2009-04-10 Thread Aaron A. Maricic
Lately, my server has been doing strange things once in a while. I've
only had this happen on No Mercy Versus so far, but that's about all we
ever play on my server. Here are some of the things that will happen:

-- Tank spawns at the very beginning of No Mercy 1 as soon as Survivors
leave the roof.
-- Required distance from Survivors for Infected to be able to spawn
increases greatly. You have to go several rooms away to be able to spawn.
-- Second team does not always get a tank, even though the first team did
-- Sometimes a team will get two tanks in the same level
-- Most of the time, a witch will spawn instead of tank for the second team

My server is a vanilla server. I have run update and -verify_all several
times, but the issue continues. If I restart the server, it fixes
everything. However, a few days later it seems to happen again. Has
anyone else seen this issue or have any ideas why it might be occurring?
Thanks for any advice.

Re: [hlds_linux] L4D: Team swap bug

2009-01-26 Thread Aaron A. Maricic
I have not had this occur at all since the patch...

The team swap bug is still present on my L4D servers. After a few
players left, some new players joined, map changed and teams were
shuffled. One of the latest patch said that it had been fixed, was it
really fixed and the patch wasn't applied?
