Re: [hlds_linux] Fake servers with our name...

2010-07-28 Thread EVAgames Community

Lawyers will do nothing. Valve isn't hosting those fake servers.
Someone is, so track down IP, and call ISP that IP belongs to.
And if someone is faking Valve's master server list, it isn't Valve fault.
Every communication is possible to interrupt and master server
communication is not an exception.

It would be insane to sue Apache foundation, because i would call my vhost
for example microsoft.lt

Think with your heads, people!..

Always make sure that you have your trademarks in order, or else someone

Re: [hlds_linux] Error in Line 341 on Startup

2010-07-15 Thread EVAgames Community
Because you can't host a crappy 12 slot server on stone age CPU - you will
not play the game?

Thats a f***ing insane. You need to see a doctor. You can always host it
on better server (I mean server, not a desktop somewhere under the table
on some dial-up line). Or you can rent a 12 slot server (in my country you
can do it for ~10-11 Euros/month and that's not A LOT)

Even a Q6600 is a old school CPU and you blame Valve because you can't
HOST or play on some 9-year old computer. My Celeron SU2300 mobile would
do better. And hey, it's only 10W.

I don't get, what's the problem? You are lack of disk space or what?! We,
TF2 server owners get tons of windows(or Xbox config) files. Movie (bik)
files and other stuff that linux server doesn't need and no one complains
about that. And you want Valve to pay devs to add some kind of function
for you not to download some maps? WTF? de_airstrip is only 7MB, while
most of unused TF2 maps are 35MB and more.

IF YOU DON'T NEED THOSE MAPS - IGNORE THEM. DELETE THEM FROM mapcycle OR
amx MAPS LIST!

Somehow, since TF2 release, update tool started downloading A LOT client
files. L4D and L4D2, as I remember, ~300MB we get dll files. I understand,
that client.dll is needed to verify CRC. But why the hell we need video

server download, VALVE would save hundreds of terabytes traffic, per month.

Re: [hlds_linux] Team Fortress 2 Update Available

2010-04-15 Thread EVAgames Community
Nothing, except that if you want to host a game server with quality, less
CPU usage ant way less bugs – you need to buy and reinstall all of your
servers to Windows. Even if developer (valve) provides a Linux built for
the server you are still recommended to use Windows. But no, it has
nothing to do with Windows vs Linux. Totally off topic. I wonder will the
Mac version of their games be as buggy as the Linux one. Just wondering.
:-) As you said they just “write for Windows more”. :-)

Peace!

Re: [hlds_linux] tf2 strange issue

2010-04-06 Thread EVAgames Community
No. Not that company. We mean that company that make player hat updates
instead of fixing some engine exploits, shadow player bugs and finally –
the fucked up query protocol. We mean that company. We mean that company
that fucked up the custom mod community with their super “go orange” thing
and then stopped providing the updates since 14 protocol. We mean that
company which can’t fix game bugs and exploit holes for engine older than
my younger sister. Come on, dproto as a metamod plgin fixed Valve exploits
weeks before they updated the engine. And still dproto is the plugin
that prevents svc_bads in 32/32 servers. You just can turn the ability to
allow cracked players in and use the “bug fix” part.

But what we are talking? Valve was contacted about three times about
piracy problem in Baltic countries. We don’t have an ability to buy retail
games. EA boxes don’t get imported or even if they do – the price is three
or four times higher than online store. Kids aren’t allowed to have credit
cards. So they just download game at local torrent tracker. But when I
asked them about ability to buy some keys and make retail versions and
start selling – only thing that they wanted to know was… how many
cybercafés we have. So as I understand – they do not care how many cracked
servers are, how many cracked players play and how much the cs1.6 server
list is flooded with fake dproto servers.

Re: [hlds_linux] dproto

2010-03-14 Thread EVAgames Community
Well, dproto isn't a crack theoretically. It doesn't even touch any of
Valve files. Witch means, that there are no problems with EULA. So I don't
see any country law problems here. So, as we know - most of ISP's allow to
upload metamod plugins without any restrictions. And anyone can upload
this sh...t to server without ISP knowledge about it.

In other hand, about the ISP responsibility. There are such things like
ISP/Client agreements witch make client responsible for the custom content
that he uploads during the server rent time.

We complain ISP for renting cracked servers. Maybe maxrate.pl doesn't even
know what dproto does. They got complains about the plugin after the
update and asked us. We told them what we told and not they will know what
to do. Not to support that client or maybe suspend his account or... maybe
warn about the plugin.

Re: [hlds_linux] HLDS exploit ?

Basicly, you need to do some HEX'ing inside engine_i686.so and it helps
(at least temporary).

Even DoD:s which is built on same engines, uses less CPU than TeamFortress.
So better solution is to change CPU. More GHz per core, more fun.

Re: [hlds_linux] team fortress 2 high cpu consumption

2010-01-17 Thread EVAgames Community
I have 2.8GHz Quad Core and I can run 1000fps TeamFortress with ~26 players
on one core. Usage is about ~70-80%.
So, doing some math...
(26*2.0)/2.8=18.57
And I think that 18 players on 2.0GHz core isn't so bad. If you want more,
try lowering your kernel settings. Do not use RT and lower fps to ~300-500.
