Re: [hlds_linux] Dota 2 Dedicated Servers
2011/11/7 s s.senti...@gmail.com I think the trouble is that as soon as the dedicated servers are released, no-steam groups will go out of their way to crack them. [...] IMO Most of the no-steam stuff will be mitigated by not making the binaries available until the games release, fanatics will jump at no-steam if there's no legitimate alternative. Piracy is a service issue etc. In my opinion, dedicated servers should stay. It is better than far-away hosting, more reliability and if not, control. Central servers pretty much disables the opportunity to have fun, and to install 3rd party mods. Also, on a sider note, have you ever heard about AlterIWNet? Making a concentrated server is just delaying the inevitable, hackers are always one step past us. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

I think the trouble is that as soon as the dedicated servers are released, no-steam groups will go out of their way to crack them. However I really think that released dedicated servers would be really good for the community, especially for regions where Valve isn't prepared to host their own servers. [hlds_linux] Dota 2 Dedicated Servers
Now when Valve is kicking it up a notch with the Dota 2 beta, are there any plans to release the server binaries and let us test them? Or will Dota 2, like HoN and LoL, have everything hosted by Valve? ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

I haven't read anything about that either yet, it'd be quite interesting to get a few information on the whole server story. -- Mit freundlichen Grüssen, Sincerely Yours, Daniel Vogel On 4 November 2011 09:29, Jonas Stendahl jonas.stend...@gmail.com wrote: Now when Valve is kicking it up a notch with the Dota 2 beta, are there any plans to release the server binaries and let us test them? Re: [hlds_linux] Dota 2 Dedicated Servers
I think Valve is running all the servers for Dota 2 but who knows for sure. That would be a first. It doesn't sound like the type of game that would benefit from community hosted servers like TF2. Re: [hlds_linux] Dota 2 Dedicated Servers
The last article I read on it made it sound like the ELO based matching would only occur on Valve servers, but that the community could provide servers to play on as well. Given all the work they've put into the registered servers I imagine that will play a part with Dota2 server hosting.
