Re: [hlds_linux] Hibernation?

2008-11-20 Thread Steve Sumichrast
The best I can tell, when a server empties out, it restarts. When it
fires back up if nobody is on the map, it goes into hibernation.

I have forks this moment in hibernation -- I can still RCON to them though.

I'm pretty sure the server just stopped responding, and wasn't
visible in eg. Steam Groups in L4D, when it enters this state.

After changing to running using -fork, I can see that the server does
the following when entering hibernation

#02:Server is hibernating
Child 1 aborted with signal 14
setparm 9 10002
setparm 13 forkserver02.cfg

after which it restarts and loads map, etc

Which seems to indicate that this state, at least in L4D, means that
the server needs to be restarted, or am I totally mistaken?

Hibernation basically just means there's no one in there so it stops
processing stuff from inside the map to save on CPU... it shouldn't affect
any external control method at all (whether typing on the actual game
console, using a netconport console, or using hlsw or external rcon program)

[hlds_linux] Hibernation?

Sorry for stealing the thread, but now I see hibernation mentioned.

I haven't had all that much experience running a srcds server, i've
been running a TF2 server for a while, and a private Garrys Mod, and
in line with the L4D launch, i've setup a semi-private server (as
private as they get at the moment :)

But, when running a steamgroup exclusive server, the server goes into
hibernation when the final player leaves, and because of this, just
stops responding.

I haven't seen it leaving hibernation before I either restart it, or
load a new map.

Does anyone know / can explain exactly what hibernation is, and why
the server enters this state?

/Peter
