Re: [hlds_linux] Nasty spawn bug

2006-02-10 Thread Cam

A side note on this glitch, Alfred, not sure how useful it is but..

You have no crosshairs to help you aim
Aim is 100% accurate, sniper rifles have a scope and work (Styer AUG does
not)
You keep guns even after death
Grenades are apparently unseable for some reason (can't switch to them)
The glitch ends upon map change
You cannot move immediately untill you cycle through all the points (?
possibly)

I'll also email you a copy to make sure this is not lost.

Hi,

Someone reported a nasty spawn bug on our servers. It's a bug which
is being exploited
by Myg0t. It goes as following:

Join any server, click away the motd and open the console:
- type buyequip
- type menuselect 1 (to join the T's) (or menuselect 2 (to join the
CT's),
- then type menuselect 10.
Close console, click OK, then choose any skin.
Wait to spawn. Once you spawn, you have 1 second to buy a weapon (any
weapon) before you get teleported.
When you're teleported, you teleport to every place where are cams.
You can kill opponents, and you can die.

I believe this is an old bug, but maybe someone can resolve it.

PS. Maybe someone also can resolve that bug that you can boost
through roofs that have a slope.

This was a VERY IRRESPONSIBLE message. You could have contacted
Alfred or Erik with this directly rather than telling the entire world
as you did. In the future if you have any concerns about security or
bugs PLEASE contact Alfred Reynold or another Valve employee who posts
to these lists and the message will get to the right person.

If you want something to stop telling the world how to do it is
absolutely the last thing a rational person would do. Now every
shmuck who can read can do this. Smarten up and show some class.

Ehm, that is the same as Alfred was telling.. I can read tho...

Call it irresponsible, or not. At least i try helping detecting these
things. I could have just ignored it, like it has been for months.
This has been public for a lot of months. It came by on irc a while ago.
Apperently no-one else reported it, which i find much more alarming then
posting it on a hlds mailinglist, where I PRESUME are at lease some
responsible admins who run descent servers (like i do). Well, maybe you're
not one of them, but at least i am. There is no need to get rude. I'm just
doing my best in reporting... Maybe not by the right way this time, but i
also can learn stuff. So can you... learn some manors...

Yeah I'm sure all the hardships you've endured by reading this list

How many actual bugs have you tried reporting to anyone directly?
Any? It's not like Alfred has never asked serious bugs be sent
directly him, he's been asking for years. As someone who has reported
many bugs to Alfred I can tell you over the past five years he and
others at Valve have been nothing but greatful for the help.

 2. If you think the exposure of a hack like this on this list is
going to increased the amount of use on it then I must wonder why you
are here? Script kitties use underground lists and boards that most
of us, including myself, do not know about.

So because pathetic cheaters use private forums you can't report
serious bugs privately to Valve?

 3. Please do not lambaste another user for trying to point out
something that needs to be fixed. That is BAD taste.

It's one thing to point out a bug, its entirely another to put every
single server operator in jeopardy. Who is being selfish here?

As server admins, we either find out the hard way when these exploits are
used on our servers, or we find out on lists like this. I would rather find
out here, be made aware of the problem and know that it is being addressed
rather than finding out on the forums at my site, or even worse, see the
exploit used on my servers while I am playing.

I understand your reasoning about posting exploits, but at the same time I
am glad repro steps were posted.

When you're teleported, you teleport to every place where are
cams. You can kill opponents, and you can die.

I believe this is an old bug, but maybe someone can resolve it.

Re: [hlds_linux] Nasty spawn bug

2006-02-09 Thread drlove
This was a VERY IRRESPONSIBLE message. You could have contacted
Alfred or Erik with this directly rather than telling the entire world
as you did. In the future if you have any concerns about security or
bugs PLEASE contact Alfred Reynold or another Valve employee who posts
to these lists and the message will get to the right person.

If you want something to stop telling the world how to do it is
absolutely the last thing a rational person would do. Now every
shmuck who can read can do this. Smarten up and show some class.

Maybe a bit less coffee for you. This exploit has been known for a while,
it's hardly gaining more traction from being posted here.

[hlds_linux] Nasty spawn bug

2006-02-08 Thread W0kk3L

Hi,

Someone reported a nasty spawn bug on our servers. It's a bug which is being
exploited
by Myg0t. It goes as following:

Join any server, click away the motd and open the console:
- type buyequip
- type menuselect 1 (to join the T's) (or menuselect 2 (to join the CT's),
- then type menuselect 10.
Close console, click OK, then choose any skin.
Wait to spawn. Once you spawn, you have 1 second to buy a weapon (any
weapon) before you get teleported.
When you're teleported, you teleport to every place where are cams. You can
kill opponents, and you can die.

I believe this is an old bug, but maybe someone can resolve it.

PS. Maybe someone also can resolve that bug that you can boost through roofs
that have a slope.
