So just to do some quick checking: BF1942 32 player requires a 6Mb line A dedicated DS3 is 45Mb A dedicated DS3 would max at seven 32 player BF servers A quick check at nuclearfallout.net for what a 32 player BF server runs shows $374/mo. Times that by seven and get $2,618 monthly in server revenue. Now, I'm not a smart man, but I know 45Mb line cost more than that, alot more. I don't get it. -- - m0gely http://quake2.telestream.com/ Q2 | Q3A | Counter-strike ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

I'm in New Zealand and we're still paying $60 NZD ($37USD) for 128k/128k DSL with a 5gb international cap (99.999% of sites are international to us) - bandwidth ain't cheap here Though in saying that, you can get a 10mb fibre link for $1,469 per month ($925 USD).. Verizon thinks their copper is worth GOLD. Even if I ditch my current provider for the inet and go all Verizon (which I may aftet our contract is up) I would only save about $250/mo. I know here in Houston, Birch Communications sells T1's for $350/mo and that includes the local loop. A wireless provider in my building gives us 3Mb for $199/mo. Luckily, our building is a feed point for wireless customers, so we are hardwired. Those high prices might have been legit 6 months ago when BF was a huge cpu hog but they fixed that issue in version 1.38. Maybe that is where you guys are getting that impression, old data? There was a 60% reduction in cpu load a few months ago but I don't know how much the bandwidth traffic was reduced if any. I posted earlier some stats on the real life bandwidth usage we see on BF servers. I changed that subject though not expecting this one to continue... sorry about that.
