Well, getting a little closer according to Steam Support Twitter account,
they finished the Steam maintenance at 5:00 PM (Pacific). My Asia/Pacific
region servers won't update yet, but North America seems like it's trying to at
least.

Asia/Pacific server is throwing a time-out.

I'll assume this is all load-related (now that Steam is back up again,
everybody trying to update) and just keep trying.

Got the same issue here. Gmail didn't retrieve me the announcement e-mail
'til now and it says it was sent yesterday.

I usually recieve the "heads up for new update" e-mail at the same time I
get the "update released" one. I'm not sure if there's something wrong with
gmail or the list, but this has been going on since Fletcher started to
inform us about the upcoming changes.

[hlds_linux] TF2 Update

2011-10-18 Thread Ross Bemrose
I don't know if this is a required update or not, but I saw this on the
TF2 update notes on Steam:

Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be
applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major
changes include:

- Fixed a frequent server crash related to packfiles
- Fixed the following items not being able to be used in the Rebuild
Headgear recipe: Lo-Fi Longwave, Loyalty Reward, Spiral Sallet, Summer
Shades, Scout Flip-Flops, Lucky No. 42, Summer Hat, Killer Exclusive,
Ball-Kicking Boots, Merc's Pride Scarf, Manniversary Paper Hat

Seeing as how it fixes a "frequent server crash," it should probably be
mentioned on the server list...

I'm interested to hear what the gcc problem was. Was it actually a bug
with gcc or just some undocumented feature?

This update will probably be an optional update, since it isn't critical for
clients. But of course all the server operators will want to make sure and get
it.

Further bulletins as events warrant.

Your full server without this update is going to crash anyway sooner or
later, that's why optional updates are better: you can just wait for the 1st
crash and let the server autoupdate itself.

Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 update coming this afternoon

2011-07-28 Thread Sir Jake

It would be nice for something like this to be not an optional update so that
people not on this list also get this update for their servers.
Also having to take down full servers in the middle of the afternoon for an
optional update would mean half of those players would then join another server.

Sorry I just dislike having to kill our servers that we've spent all morning to
fill for a patch that we hope fixes an issue that has been losing us all
players for the last week.
Anyways glad you guys have found what might be crashing all the linux servers.

Just my two cents.
Thanks,

Ämne: [hlds_linux] TF2 update coming this afternoon

We have fixed the crash related to the mantreads. (We also found a problem
with the damage calculation.) The problem was gcc-specific and thus only
affected Linux servers. We are mostly sure (though not 100% sure) that a
similar problem was happening with the Dr. G weapons.

This update will probably be an optional update, since it isn't critical for
clients. But of course all the server operators will want to make sure and
get it.

Further bulletins as events warrant.

Your humble servant,
Fletch

Network design improvement opportunity here. They probably have
different traffic types of requiring different levels of SLA using the
same transit system.

Also, since the traffic is mostly outbound for updates, this is
something that they could control with QoS.

Valve need a network engineer? I'm the net-eng for the the largest
supercomputer cluster in the state of Arizona and I want to move to
Seattle.  =)

Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 Update Released

2011-06-27 Thread Josh Stratton
Well, thank goodness we can rename taunts now since that made it to the top
of the list of things to do. Since we're on beyond pointless updates now, I
would love to see HOUWAR owners get something that has been promised for 6
months now? Wait, it's been over 7. At least we're setting our priorities
straight and not fixing the biggest complaints since the SPUF has been
flooding lately with request to rename their taunts.

[hlds_linux] TF2 Update?

2010-10-06 Thread Ross Bemrose
I just had a TF2 client update, and it appears that there has also
been an update to the 'Team Fortress 2 Content' package on the server
side that updates the following files:

26.95% downloading /home/ocremix/highlander/orangebox/tf/bin/server.dll
68.78% downloading /home/ocremix/highlander/orangebox/tf/bin/server.dylib
100.00% downloading
/home/ocremix/highlander/orangebox/tf/maps/graphs/cp_dustbowl.ain

However, there is no OB Linux server update...

OK, let‘s complain about DOD:s one more time... Today’s TF2 engine update

Exe build: 13:45:36 Jun 8 2009 (3866) (300) – NOT WORKING! Players crash to
desktop.

Exe build: 07:57:44 Jun 25 2009 (3883) (300) – ACCEPTS PLAYERS

Exe build: 10:50:39 Jul 14 2009 (3902) (300) – NOT WORKING! Players crash to
desktop.

Can anyone confirm a working 3902?

And yes, I do backup every update, because it’s almost impossible to host DOD:s
these days. :)

This obsoletes my RTL extension. I've already updated the thread's OP

Bad news. While it allows 'full teams', it doesn't do random only anymore.
You can choose your team, which kind of fucks over arena.

[hlds_linux] TF2 Update 05/29

2009-05-29 Thread mRyOuNg
Hi there,

The last update is showing the following:
- Added tf_arena_use_queue server convar. Turn this on to
get the old queue behavior. Default is off
- Added tf_arena_round_time to set a timelimit on the round

Does anyone knows what this is about ?
Is this something like FullTeamArena mode ? Same behaviour as the
RunTeamLogic extension for SourceMod ?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

I'd say they do not want our game servers to bomb their Steam servers
with requests of the "renew connection thx" traffic which is why they
check the connection only on startup. However, why not change the system
so that it would automatically connect back if connection is lost ?

Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 Update Bugs

2009-05-22 Thread JäKë T

I think everyone is having this issue, it's a pain having to restart the server
so it reconnects to steam.

I swear I heard last update they had a fix for it so it would regain connection
after map change, never worked for my servers.

Is this just a linux issue? Or are there others on here with windows servers
doing the same?

We get that time to time but only fix is to restart the server. There
has been multiple requests on this list in the past to make the server
renew its connection to the Steam servers by itself but no one has
replies nor commented them officially.

Is anyone else having problems with Linux TF2 server losing its connection
to Steam? If so, any known fixes besides restarting server?

This isn't a bug report mailing list. This list has to do with the game, not
the linux (nonetheless) dedicated server.

Yeah, seriously. He's only been AFK for about what, 2 years now?

When we first started running TF2 servers (when TF2 came out) I tried the
"orangebox" edition of Mani (the one thing he seems to have done for
Mani Admin Plugin in the last couple years) and when I found that half of
the stuff that wasn't CS:S-specific anyway didn't work right, I decided
it was time to "move on".

You really should get rid of Mani, even if it isn't the cause of your
crashes. It's DEAD. iirc there are a couple sourcemod plugin scripts
that will give you some additional "compatibility" command translation
for sourcemod, so you can keep using the mani commands.

Beetlemod is pretty good. Sourcemod is pretty good too, and as an added
bonus you can code your own stuff for it without having to recompile
everything else too if you are so inclined.

We're 100% sourcemod now on all servers (CS:S, TF2, L4D). Being able to
change thing we don't like about the "stock" way some plugin scripts are
written is important to us.

2009-03-07 Thread CodeRed
No, it is not. Also -console does not exist as linux startparameter
and -secure is not required, VAC is on by default.

Try deleting the addons folder and perform a -verify_all.

2009-03-07 Thread Henrik Dige Semark

Don't know if there is pingboost in source games, but I haven't got any errors
on that before :S

But it seams that the people on Steam have messed up in there Linux-dedi server
:(

I have just tried to remove -pingboost 3 from the start up-line, and still same
error

Re: [hlds_linux] TF2 update: chat is borked

2009-02-25 Thread Ronny Schedel
I don't care about SourceMod. It is not working on a vanilla server. I
discovered the reason: if you start with / the chat, it means you want to
change a cvar.

Example: if you enter /skill in the chat window, you does not chat, instead
you see the Cvar declaration in the console like when you enter skill in
console.

2009-02-25 Thread Ronny Schedel
Hello,

it seems we are not able to start the chat with the character "/" like in
/skill or /rank or /pskill anymore. This means, an ingame hlstats ranking
query is not possible. Is there a reason behind this change?

I believe there should be some changes to that wiki. After all, 64bit
compliant SRCDS/HLDS binaries with VAC2 were given the status of "When
it's done". A year after becoming useless, the 64bit binaries were
totally dropped and support ended entirely.

The SourceTV issue seems not to be fixed with the latest update. We have one
report about connection problems, even with console connect.

We're planning to ship a mandatory TF2 server/client update later today.
We'll have the list of changes for you when the update is ready.

There are a few items (below) we're working on that won't be ready for
the release today. We're aware of these issues and are working to have
them fixed for the next update.

- SourceTV issues (port/connection problems, and servers with
maxplayers 32)
- mp_timelimit not functioning correctly on custom maps
- FCVAR_NOTIFY broken on Linux servers

We'll be doing some work to educate players on the new Custom servers
tab, using both PR and user interface changes. Now that the
Internet/Custom servers system is in place, we'd like server admin to
work within it. We'll be delisting servers with custom rule sets that
deliberately work around the system.
