Are you specifying -ip as well as your -port and -rcon_port on the
command line? (or in your +exec whatever.cfg file?)

Recent releases of the source engine seem to require -ip, or it simply
fails to allow rcon access at all.

Re: [hlds_linux] VAC and log retrieval problems since 08/09 March update

2006-03-26 Thread DI
No i don't appear to have that set, its specifically done in a startup
script which has a few generic options for the srcds install like port
and tickrate, then some mod specific things, like the start map etc
which are executed depending on what mod name is used when running the
script.

Rcon access itself isn't the problem though, i can connect to the
server with HLSW and use commands in its console, i just can't
retrieve logs at all to get steam id's and the chat to be able to
monitor everything on the server with one program, right now i'd have
to watch the actual server console for chat and ID's via SSH then
either use HLSW to admin it or connect directly to the server myself.

When i get a chance i'll try adding the -ip switch in to see if it
makes any difference though, thank you for suggesting it.

Also I've rolled back two further servers as well now, again the VAC
and log retrieval problems were fixed by doing this.I still have one
server running the latest update if anyone has any more suggestions
for me to try though.

DI

Re: [hlds_linux] VAC and log retrieval problems since 08/09 March update

2006-03-26 Thread DI
Adding the -ip doesn't seem to have helped, i did notice whilst i was
fiddling around some more that CSS and DODS i can get logs from fine
even on the updated server install, its just HL2MP and the Hidden
source mod that i'm running that i'm unable to get logs with.

The CSS server had a more complete set of logfile commands so i tried
them in the HL2MP config to make sure but that hasn't helped either :(
And just on the offchance i completely removed mani from the HL2MP
install as well with yet again no change.

Anyone else running any other source mods and getting the same, or
anyone able to get the same with hl2mp as well, i guess since alot of
people will run css and dods this is maybe a bit less likely to have
been noticed on the whole.

DI

[hlds_linux] VAC and log retrieval problems since 08/09 March update

2006-03-24 Thread DI
Since the last update HLSW is unable to retrieve server logs, i can
log on and execute commands, just not get any log info, chat/STEAM ID
etc, so not very helpful at all. This is happening for both Linux and
Windows administrators as well, one windows administrator i've seen
post on the steam/hlsw forums felt it was a more recent steam update
that caused him problems though.

Also in a slight variation to the VAC problems my servers are able to
run hl2dm in secure mode but the same install cannot get secure mode
for the Hidden source mod at all.

There is a rollback posted on the steampowered forums for Linux
users, i've just tried this on one server install and it solved BOTH
problems.

Being unable to remotely administer my servers is a big problem and i
certainly don't like them running without VAC either :(

Anyone else on here having similar problems or know if this is already
being looked into?

If any further info is required then let me know.

DI

2006-03-24 Thread Joshua Zellers

I can't answer your last questions, but I can say I have not had a problem
connecting using Half-Life Server Watch to both of my servers. Maybe a
firewall/router is blocking its ability to send outgoing connections? I am
using 1.0.0.47 right now, the latest stable version I believe. There are
some times when I cannot retrieve the log. usually if I click again
afterwards it retrieves it the second try.

Re: [hlds_linux] VAC and log retrieval problems since 08/09 March update

2006-03-24 Thread DI
Hi, i don't believe this to be the problem, I tested giving the server
full access through my firewall on all ports and also using no
firewall at all with no change before trying the rollback.I have also
used HLSW version 1.0.0.43 and then updated to 1.0.0.47 and still had
the same problem.

The servers themself hadn't been running for a few months and last
week i got round to setting them up again, ie updating them, it was
then i realised i couldn't get logs despite nothing else having
changed at my end or the servers.

Currently i have four servers active:

1x Hidden source with rollback applied - HLSW log retrieval and VAC
working fine
1x HL2DM server - HLSW log retireval fails, VAC works OK
2x Hidden Source with latest update - HLDS log retrieval fails and VAC
won't connect

I should also point out that i am running the current stable version
of mani mod (1.1.0.zh) on one updated hidden server, meta mod with BAC
and TKForgive on the other.
The HL2DM server is running mani mod betaM
The working hidden server is running mani mod 1.2betaM-RC6, before the
rollback it was running 1.2betaM-RC6 and before that just betaM and
still failing for both logs and VAC.

I can't be certain about VAC but i know the log retrieval didn't work
before i installed any of these extra mods anyway.

No amount of pressing the log retrieval buttons helps on the servers
without the rollback :

DI

2006-03-24 Thread Joshua Zellers

That's weird. I really don't think HLSW does much more than connects to the
gameserver through a port (7130) I believe. If you want to email me an IP
and rcon password ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) I can try to connect from my
computer and see what happens on my end if you'd like. You can add that
email to MSN Messenger as well if you want to IM instead of email.

Sorry, i'm not in the habit of handing out my passwords to strangers
i'm afraid :p

I'll see what i can do about getting another admin to try though, so
far it has just been me trying with HLSW.

I checked the VAC thing on one updated server as well, HL2MP/CSS/DODS
are all secure but with Hidden Source on the same install i get

version : 1.0.1.0/7 2677 insecure (secure mode enabled, connected to Steam3)

yet as i said with the rollback all the mods on the server are secured fine.

Both are strange problems :(

so not to worry :)
Yeah, as you said, I would suggest getting another admin to try it out on
their end and compare what happens. That way you could narrow down the
problem with HLSW.

Very strange problems with your VAC. I really don't know much about Hidden
Source, so I'm afraid I can't help on that matter :( Maybe somebody else who
