Wow, that was a pretty ignorant email. Please continue to contribute
your bits of knowledge and golden insight.

Subject: [hlds_linux] Valve: THANK YOU; Valve Haters: WOW, Quit
Your Bitching!

Like the subject says, QUIT YOUR BITCHING! You all remind me of
that Flash cartoon about the kid creating 'L337zor-Strike'. If
you think you can do better than Valve, by all means, GO AHEAD.
But the fact is, you can't (or at least, won't). I'm pretty
damn sure that Valve is trying as hard as they can! It's much
easier to write code [Hacks] to defeat a KNOWN set of tests
[VAC], than to write code [VAC] to find an UNKNOWN set of
exploits [Hacks]. If you guys would sit down and actually try
to find HOW these cheats work, and submit THAT to the list
instead of random bitching, maybe something would actually get
accomplished! The fact is, nobody other than the CD developers
are doing anything other than random, idiotic, unhelpful
complaining. And you know what... the CD developers informed
Valve that they had methods to HELP, and Valve allowed them to
get CD to work with their software. So unless you f**king
bitchers actually find something helpful, shut the F*$ UP! We
all know there are cheaters out there. Duh! Try and help the
situation, don't add to it. And honestly, there have actually
been very few on my servers lately, which are very obvious to
pick out and ban manually, as always. Meanwhile, VAC is
continuing to detect cheaters on my servers every couple of
days (including the 21st). So, in summary, constructive
criticism is the only type of post that is going to get
anything done; stop bitching at people for not doing things
which you do not know how to do either! Eric, let me appologize
on behalf of the entire community, and also say thank you,
which they do not seem to know how to do.

Re: [hlds_linux] Valve: THANK YOU; Valve Haters: WOW, Quit Your Bitching!

2003-02-22 Thread Prodigy
Uhm, Valve was responsible for the C-D projects death. Since VAC has let us
down, I think we have every right to complain. Valve isn't some charity
giving away free software you realize, they are a company making money off
us. So I think we have every right to complain, although complaints
regardless of their legitimacy should be constructed and directed in as
professional manner as possible... Honestly, because of VAC we all suffer.
Thank GOD UA picked up C-D and we now again have an alternative.

I'll pat Valve on the back when they let an outside entity handle their
anti-cheat as clearly they are not capable of doing an effective job for
probably a variety of reasons (other projects?!). If the community was
doing a fine job, why not just let it continue, or give them the code they
need to make it better.

Re: [hlds_linux] Valve: THANK YOU; Valve Haters: WOW, Quit Your Bitching!

2003-02-22 Thread m0gely
Yeah. I guess I would have to agree here. VAC disabled all the 3rd
party alternatives on it's inception (almost). Those were people
volunteering their time and making updates fairly regularly.
I don't hate VAC, but clearly the update frequency is far short of the
anti-cheats it no longer allows. It's good to see CD come back. I'm
not sure I want to use it yet, but we'll see.
Valve, I think even if there is a small update for a single cheat, VAC
should be updated. If your waiting to nail 10 at a time (I don't know
that they are), it doesn't work well in the mean time for us, or
possibly even overall.

I'm also sure that VALVE would not do anything if they did not know what
cheats was out there and how big the problem is. People complaining do a
well job in showing how big the cheating problem is. Witch then again
help VALVE set focus on the most known cheats.
