True that VALVe could tell us a few hours before... True we should not cry when VALVe is now doing what we asked for years... Børge, I believe you'd better not ban the detected people. Anyway, as they are detected within 5 secs on logging, what does matter. They can try to connect my servers all the day and being kicked within 5 secs each time. I do not care. :-P If you do not ban, at leats will you never ban false detections. I believe that VALVe in their infinite wisdom, decided not to ban because of that. Let's them find the best solution now that they took our destiny in hands ;-D Craig, maybe we could ask VALVe to restart automatically the servers after updating VAC ? ;-P Could be an idea... no ? Re: [hlds_linux] New Security Modules 06.17.02
Well that's not the problem here. I have no problem in rebooting the server. My problem is that this module update is coming when i sleep. Until im able to restart the server there might have been someone falsely detected from VAC. When i then get up and check, how the heck shoul i know if this is false or right ? craig kaiser wrote: > I for one support VAC and Valve. I for one support VAC and Valve. Nothing in life is perfect! If I have to reboot the server so be it. What is the big deal? "OMG" I had to reboot because valve released a new module to help me. As far as I'm concerned, if Valve Anti-Cheat says someone is cheating, then they're cheating. If Valve aren't going to provide any documentation to their software, then, well, bad luck - I'll be telling my users that they were banned because of (not by) the official anti-cheating mechanism, and if they have problems with that, they can take it up with someone else that isn't me. Sorry Valve guys, I appreciate your efforts but I'm not prepared to spend any more of my own time which I could be using to do other more interesting and useful things fixing your mistakes and covering for your problems. -- trog ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

Maybe they should have tested less popular MOD's than CS to try VAC, like TFC, and they would not tarnish their precious CS user base ; ) - Original Message - From: "Tiscali Børge Amundsen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2002 1:33 AM Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] New Security Modules 06.17.02 Eric Smith wrote: > There have been some situations where the servers and clients got > into a state where they can't communicate properly (which falsely detects > the client as a cheater). > > NOTE: Please take into account that we've had problems with false positives > when considering whether to permanently ban a player who was detected. Eric. Just how are we suppose to know the different between false and correct detects ? We have nothing to base this from. VAC still don't log what its detecting. The only one here not knowing is admins and clean players. Cheaters know what cheats they have installed. I have 15 CS servers. Full almost 24/7. Im part of a Norwegian bannlist system named Server Admins Agains Cheats. (SAMC http://raff.villmann.com/samc/). We are banning ALL VAC detected users permanently in this database. SAMC is used by almost ALL Norwegian servers. This means that a falsely detected user is permanently banned from almost all Norwegian servers. I have a lot of complaints from users saying they don't cheat. What can i do? , well what i do is to direct all this users to valve support. Im sure they is more able to decide if this is false or correct. IT MUST BE TIME for valve to share some info about this. AND its about time VAC log a reason for what it detects. If not - well keep make us banning clean users and i promise that they all stop playing this game. I am not sure if I missed it or forgot, but is there an output file with VAC detections yet or do we have to make a grep "Secure: " *log >> vac.log to see the logged detections from the logfiles? Re: [hlds_linux] New Security Modules 06.17.02
Not knowing if my server is updated or not, yeah i'm not that into hlds yet and everything. Is there some command which can be executed from the HLDS console (eg. with HLSW) so it will trigger a update of the secure module or at least check for a new version? I don't know what the details of the VAC plan are but I am pretty sure that one feature is the ability to do lots of updates (i.e daily, hourly...). Manual updating is not an option :-) Once these update bugs get ironed out it should become transparent. - Original Message - From: "Matthew Hartwig" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2002 12:05 PM Subject: RE: [hlds_linux] New Security Modules 06.17.02 > Can we make it so that admins have to download this module and apply it > themselves? > I for one would have a lot more faith in the VAC if I didn't have to try and > second guess false positives from when the server was updated automatically. > > -Original Message- > From: Eric Smith [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2002 11:27 AM > To: Half-Life Dedicated Server Mailing List; Half-Life Dedicated Linux > Server Mailing List > Cc: Erik Johnson; Leon Hartwig > Subject: [hlds_linux] New Security Modules 06.17.02 > Importance: High > > > *** This only affects Counter-Strike servers. *** > > We've updated the security modules again.
