[Hornlist] Seashore Test
When I was in Grammar School, my mother wanted me to take violin lessons. To do so I would have to take the Seashore Test. We moved out of town before I could take it. Since then I have always wondered what the Seashore Test was and is it still in use? I have never heard of it since. To heck with the violin. I have been playing the horn since high school in 1939. RE: [Hornlist] MM programs
When I went to Mannes for my Masters, it was a one-year program although, because I had deficiencies to remedy, it took me two years to do mine. I basically took one or two grad courses each semester and the rest was third and fourth year undergrad work in things like theory and ear-training. I see now, on the Mannes web site, that it says the program is now 2 years so I guess it's changed. -S- > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Tuesday, November 11, 2008 5:29 PM > To: horn@music.memphis.edu; [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [Hornlist] MM programs > > > Hello Everyone, > > I was wondering if anyone knows of a one years MM program > besides Northwestern? > > > > Thank you for your help. > Robert > ___ > post: horn@music.memphis.edu > unsubscribe or set options at > http://music2.memphis.edu/mailman/options/horn/steve%40fridays computer.com > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG - http://www.avg.com > Version: 8.0.175 / Virus Database: 270.9.0/1773 - Release > Date: 11/11/2008 8:59 AM > ___ post: horn@music.memphis.edu unsubscribe or set options at http://music2.memphis.edu/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org
RE: [Hornlist] MM programs
We have a 30 unit M.M. in music here at the University of Idaho's Lionel Hampton School of Music. That could make a 1-year program if one took 15 credits a semester, which is possible if one does not have a Teaching Assistantship or other responsibilities. However, in all the years I have been on the faculty (since 1984), only one of our students (a very bright composer) actually completed the degree in one year. You're right about that. The period at the end of the url is simply the punctuation at the end of the sentence. RE: [Hornlist] OT: Tuba in Bb or C
I think that's the plan - Dillon Music has their own, Chinese-made, small-size BBb tuba that seems to get a lot of positive comments from people, so _if_ he decides on tuba (the other choice is currently piano), I think that's what we'll do. They sell for $995 and you can't beat that. http://www.dillonmusic.com/HeleoCart/ProductPage/DMB-995.aspx -S- > -Original Message- > From: Brass Arts Unlimited [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Tuesday, November 11, 2008 2:35 PM > To: horn@music.memphis.edu > Subject: [Hornlist] OT: Tuba in Bb or C > > Steve, > > Look for a 3/4 sized tuba for your son. [Hornlist] OT: Tuba in Bb or C
Steve, Look for a 3/4 sized tuba for your son. There are even some models out there with 4 valves, like the Meinl Weston model 11, which is even convertible to a marching bass. Yamaha makes the YBB 103 and 105, but they only have 3 valves (at least I think those are the model numbers.) The Meinl Weston is what my son played until high school. I wanted him to have that 4th valve, but honestly I don't think he ever used it. ;)Euphonium or baritone is a possibility, but not really a good substitute due to mouthpiece and range considerations. I would try to find a good, used 3/4 size BBb tuba until your son is big enough to handle the "real thing". CC is not a good solution, either, because of size and cost. If he's serious, he can move up to a CC in high school and just deal with the change in fingerings for a summer. Kids ought to learn transposition and different fingerings, anyway. -- Regards, Dave Weiner Brass Arts Unlimited Our new mailing address: 1810-A York Road, #182 Lutherville, MD 21093 www.brassarts.com ++(1) (410) 866-1587 ++(1) (443) 730-2464 fax ___ post: horn@music.memphis.edu unsubscribe or set options at http://music2.memphis.edu/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org

I'm quite prepared to take two horns and a box of crooks if need be, but I'm not sure whether or not the violin concerto parts were intended to be played on natural or valve horns. [Hornlist] Lift Thine Eyes from Mendelssohn's Elijah - for 3 horns, recorded?
I turned to the last page of my Horner method book and found "Lift thine eyes" from Mendelssohn's "Elijah" - a lovely piece for 3-part women's chorus, if memory serves, scored (and probably transcribed pretty literally, I'm guessing) for 3 French Horns. Has anyone has recorded this as written in the Horner book (or otherwise) for 3 horns? Thanks. -S- No virus found in this outgoing message. RE: AW: [Hornlist] Atterberg Sonata Op.27 + Brahms
Why not taking two horns for a special program ? We had to take double, descant & tuba to the studio often.
