[Hornlist] Custom slide for 70's Alex

I'm curious - I've seen horns with this kind of F extension.
How are the acoustics of the horn affected by the addition of such a
 long (=
presumably) cylindrical section of tube=3F I would have thought that a
 dispro=
portionate amount of the =22F-horn=22 would be cylindrical.
Anny comments=3F
Regards,
Graham

Hi Graham,

All of the extra tubing for the F side on a double Horn is cylindrical as
well, since the leadpipe, first branch, and bell are the only tapered parts, so
there really isn't a difference at all.

Take care,

[Hornlist] Custom slide for 70's Alex

2007-08-15 Thread John Dutton
When I raised the issue with my repair person, he said he would want to use
parts from Alexander and that, since these weren't parts he stocked
normally, I might as well have them make the entire thing. I don't know
what is unique or not here and whether sound, appearance, or both are at
issue.

Steve, go see Randy Ulmer in Joysey. Email me offlist if you need the
contact info. He would be able to fabricate the slide you want. Alex
tubing is 12mm and standard US tubing is 11.89mm. The proper tubing can be
purchased here in the US but not many shops have it on the shelf.

Oops, sorry. One place I get tubing from is MK Drawing but that would take
time too. My contact at Alexander is Reimund Pankratz. They don't ever
reply instantly but my experiences have been satisfactory. I have waited a
week for a reply. They have made me auxiliary a/e slides for a 103 and
otherwise always been helpful. If your German is good enough you might call
directly.

[Hornlist] Custom slide for 70's Alex

2007-08-14 Thread Steve Freides
I mailed Alexander - using the link on their web site - but have not
received a reply. I'm trying to get a price on an F-extension to be used in
place of the stopping valve tubing of my 5-valve Bb single horn. Does
anyone have an email or telephone number for Alexander they know will be
answered, or is it just that they are on vacation in August or something
like that? This is a custom horn from the 1970's.

Thanks.

2007-08-14 Thread Fred
Steve,

A few years ago, I needed a similar setup for my Paxman. Rather than go
thru the manufacturer, I visited a competent repairman in my area, who made
for me two identical, straight tubes (male on one end, female on the
other). So, I am now able to insert the two straight slides into the
desired slide receiver on the horn, and then add the existing slide to the
top, connecting the new slides. If nothing is physically in the way on your
Alex that would prevent, this may work for you if you remain unsucessful in
contacting them.

the cylindrical tubing on an Alex is about .2 mm larger than US
horns. The stock tubing in US shops is too small.
