Project managers can now set a difficulty level (from easy to hard) for
each single task. Information about the difficulty rating (when available)
is given to contributors when they select a task. Beginners may prefer to
work on easy task whereas experienced mappers can work on more difficult
tasks.

> Priority areas can be defined for a project
>

Project managers can draw polygons within the project area to distinguish
sections where the work needs to be done in priority. For example, after an
earthquake, urban areas close to the epicenter need to be mapped first.
The priority areas are shown on the map.
Also when contributors "take a task at random", they are preferably given
tasks that are in the priority areas.

> Users are informed when a task they worked on is invalidated
>

In the validation process, contributors can invalidate the work done on a
task if they consider it's not complete or not correctly done. In this
case, the user who "marked the task as done" is sent a message with the
comment by the validator. This will eventually help contributors to avoid
mistakes and do a better mapping.

> Project tasks can be exported to GeoJSON
>

Project managers can export the projects' tasks as a GeoJSON file so that
they can use it elsewhere (QGIS?). They can use it for reports for example.

I hope this helps.

[HOT] TM job for Chikhwawa district in Malawi - mapping over imagery to prepare field mapping

2014-08-06 Thread Severin Menard
Hi,

As announced in my last email about the Malawi project, I created a TM job
to start mapping the most flood prone
areas in Lower Shire valley, starting by the Chikhwawa district. The local
trainees from Malawi gov Departments, Academia and WFP have started it this
morning and through it mapped their first residential areas, roads, tracks
and waterways in this flood plain mostly covered by farm lands, what was
almost blank in OSM. Everyone is invited to participate, even for a few
objects.

As mentioned in the TM job description,* "the data produced through this
job will be used in Field Papers during the community mapping as well as
exposure data in hazard impact scenarios in order to improve the planning,
preparedness and response activities to the floods"*.

I know there is a lot of urgent TM jobs running these days (Gaza, Ebola,
CAR, South Sudan, etc.), but preparedness is also an important step in any
disaster management and be sure we will use the data in the field papers
and in our Garmin devices in a couple of weeks!

Sincerely,

Severin

Re: [HOT] Tasking Manager V2 updated

2014-08-06 Thread Pierre Béland
Thanks Pierre

Layout issues fixed

Looking at page in layout in http://tasks.hotosm.org/project/587
still regression from V1.

tested transfer of polygon in JOSM with http://tasks.hotosm.org/project/610
In JOSM, the layout is now properly traced around the polygon. To distinguish
between this polygon and the data to edit, we should look at adapting the
MapCSS styles to gray these polygons with a large band. This would be more
intuitive about the meaning of this polygon.

Project tasks can be exported to GeoJSON.

- Tested and Ok

Priority areas can be defined for a project

- Tested with http://tasks.hotosm.org/project/19
As I understand it, no title or description can be added to the polygon.

Difficulty can be set for each task
- Did not find how to implement this, neither with a job already existing or a
new one.

Nice features, good progress.

I think that it is important though to resolve the Page layout and come back to
something similar to V1.

[HOT] OSM Ebola Response as of august 2014

2014-08-06 Thread Pierre Béland
I've published a new update about the Ebola Response.
http://hot.openstreetmap.org/updates/2014-08-05_reactivation_of_hot_for_the_ebola_epidemic_second_update

With 4.3 millions objects added to the OSM database, the intensity of this OSM
Activation is now equivalent to the Philippines Haiyan Activation.  The areas
mapped in West Africa represent a square of approximately 155 km x 155 km.

The weekly WHO reports in july have showed a constant increase in the no. of
cases. We are in contac with various UN Agencies, humanitarian organizations
deployed in West Africa and Satellite imagery providers. We will continue to
follow the needs of the humanitarians deployed on the ground and add as
necessary new HOT Tasking Manager jobs to cover new areas as needed.

The wiki page for the activation has been enhanced to promote the various
exports offered by the OSM community and partners.
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/2014_West_Africa_Ebola_Response#Exporting_OpenStreetMap_data

Recall of various ungoing OSM Activations with the link to the HOT Tasking
Manager.  Thanks to all the contributors. For the Ebola Activation alone, 712
OSM contributors from around the world have contributed remotely since march,
mapping the various areas.

I think it could depend a little on the requirements. The intersection of
people posting, and members, only has partial overlap. We also need to think
about how we want to organize project contacts (as a single group, or
individuals), and contacts to profiled members (perhaps simply twitter, or link
to OSM id).

[HOT] Earthquake in China

2014-08-06 Thread Harry Wood
There was an earthquake in China a few days ago, which killed at least 410
people. I don't know if it warrants much attention, but Katpatuka was pointing
out that we haven't responded at all.
https://twitter.com/katpatuka/status/496971779056082944

No requests from aid responders but, in the hope that it may be useful to
somebody, I made a few edits just now to boost coverage, and there is more
basic coverage to add in the area, particularly using black & white "Mapbox
Satellite" imagery:

[HOT] OSM Tasking Manager localization updates

2014-08-06 Thread Dražen Odobašić
Hi all,

not sure if you noticed but we started using Transifex service for localization
coordination [0]. There are two translatable resources *master* and *current*.
Master represents current project development which will be deployed to the
http://tasks.hotosm.org. Current represents currently deployed OSMTM.

Master resource will be continuously updated during a development cycle, and
once it gets deployed it will become the *current* resource. This enables
translators to quickly fix broken or missing translations in the *current*
resource as translations can be easily updated. At the same time translators can
work on new translations in the *master* resource.

Any new languages should be added to the *master* resource. It's technically
possible to migrate translations from *master* resource to the *current*
resource, however, it's also possible that some translation will be missing
after the migration.

Happy localization,

Dražen

I can set these up and then other fields can be added as required.

In Drupal terms, the easiest will be a user profile page, because that
can be automatically connected to anybody who writes an update, but
several of them can also be manually added, for example as contacts for
projects.

We can then also use the individual Drupal contact forms which come with
a spam filter.
