[HOT] building=house
Looking at several bits of mapping in Africa it seems to be normal to use a rectangle tagged building=house. Would a simple POI tagged building=house be acceptable? Most rendering systems will drop an icon on a tagged POI, they take up a little less room in the database and its faster to drop a POI in the center of a house than draw a square. Is there a special reason for using rectangles in this way rather than POIs? Thanks John ___ HOT mailing list HOT@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/hot

So when clicking 'edit with JOSM' there is no more task boundary loaded? I have to manually load the boundary for every task I work on? How am I supposed to configure my browser to actually automatically hand this file to josm? This is a major step backwards in usability, unless there's something significantly wrong with my (untouched since before this change) setup. When I load a task into JOSM, continuous download immediately grabs adjacent area, and then I have no idea what the boundaries are of what I'm supposed to be mapping. I have only *once* seen a tasking rectangle in the OSM database, and that was somehow added by somebody else. I deleted it and moved on. It seems to me that if there's a problem with JOSM adding them, it's supremely rare, and should be prioritized in JOSM rather than fixed with such a significant step backwards in usability. I'm also not thrilled with the move of Unlock. IMO that's going to make inadvertent premature Dones much more common. I would much rather see it be a button again, perhaps colored yellow to distinguish it from the green Done. ___ HOT mailing list HOT@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/hot

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Regarding the button move I can't say one way or another. However, the loading of the file manually is a step back and it was done intentionally. The new JOSM does not honor the josm/ignore=true tag anymore and the bounding boxes were inadvertantly being uploaded to the server. We decided to make the downloading manual as a workaround to this issue. We are working with the josm devs to find a better solution, the current setup is a temporary workaround until a more permanent solution is found. - -AndrewBuck On 10/19/2014 11:06 AM, Erik Walthinsen wrote: On 10/17/2014 07:07 AM, Pierre GIRAUD wrote: Among the bug fixes or little improvements, this release's main goal is to prevent JOSM users to send the task boundary to OSM database even if ignore is set which may happen with recent versions of JOSM. [HOT] Guidance for Organizing HOT Mapathon
Hi all, I've been mapping for much of the year with HOT and a few years with OSM. I'm looking to start up some local mapathons in the Madison, WI area to hopefully share my expertise and spark some interest in the area, and would appreciate some guidance in organizing one as I haven't before. There isn't a local OSM-US chapter in the near vicinity so I will be going at it as an individual. If there's anyone with some experience in putting one together, could you ping me offline (off the mailing list)? Thanks!Ethan (mapper FTA) ___ HOT mailing list HOT@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/hot

Only if you know from previous mapping that there is the option to unlock a task even when it's not finished, will you be looking for that small link above. A second button would be preferable. I can't think of a wording but something that more clearly says The task is not finished yet, but I stop working on it. greetings antje ___ HOT mailing list HOT@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/hot
