Re: Adabas Pricing model
Hi, my customer runs 2 z/196 and is changeing the "old"-CICS/DB2/ADABAS based software to Java-based AIX-Software, where System Z is a big DB2-Datasharing DATABASE Server for this application. From the "old" times they still have some CICS-ADABAS and CICS-DB2-Systems running. For the IBM-Software they use the SCRT Reports (VWLC+ZNLAC), and use Groupcapping for the "old" applications. This works fine for IBM, but for SAG it does not work. They donot accept the SCRT-Reports As far as I can remember (this goes back almost 5-6 Years), they cut a deal with SAG, paying so much as they paid before all the upgrades of the hardware occured. SO I think you have to do some hard bargaining with them :-) Gio Am 03.05.2011 07:30, schrieb Gibney, Dave: Rumor has it that they do. Totally unconfirmed as far as I know. My first inclination was to tell them to call SAG, but they told me that they were unable to get any kind of response back on the question, so I tried myself, and I have not been able to get a response either, so I decided I would give you guys a shot. Is anyone aware of any sites that run Adabas/Natural under a sub- capacity license agreement? I think it's priced by MSU, so it makes sense that they would have one, but I can't tell either way. Any comments? Thanks for your help. Your opinion on More or Less CPs in a Z196
Hi to All. I would like to hear your opinion on the following issue. We plan to change out 2xZ/10 (704+705) to 2x Z196 We still run a little bit of CICS and normal batch, but our main work is, that we are running (and Coverting) our present applications to a multitier-System. That is, the applications runs on serveral AIX-Severs (java) and we have the Database servers on z/os (running DB2-Datasharing). SO most of the work that comes in is thru DDF (running as Enclave). Now my opinion for the new machine is, that it would be better to install 2xZ196 Model 600 with each 7CP instead of 1x Z196/704 and 1x Z196/705 Total MSU for 2x607 : 1138 Total MSU for 2x70x : 1181 On each machine we run a TEST and an Prod LPAR with DB2-Datasharing. Having more PCPs (7) I can define more LCPs per LPAR and because of the many short running DDF-Transaction I think I get a better perfromance. Using Hyperdispatch is also a bigger issue if I have more PCP to share across Lpars. Beside that, with 7 PCP I can also install up to 7 ZiIIPs. On the other hand with CBU I almost come to the end of the z/196-600 Line (max 15 CPs). Re: Capping LPARs
HI, we run 2 z/10 machines. and abot 10 Lpar z/os + Zlinux + z/vm (both Playgrounds) We use GROUPCAPPING on one z/10 for 3 LPARs that run "old"-Applications like CICS and DB2. (2 Prod and 1 Test) The reason for this is the new Pricing policy of IBM. (VLC) THhs way we can prevent that these 3 LPARs use more than the agreed number of MSUs and increase our software costs. THe group is defined with 125 MSUs. (can be used by all 3 LPAR) We see peaks above the 125 MSU (up to 180), but the 4 Hr Average "normaly" does not go above the 125MSUs I played around and set the MAX:MSU (hardcap) for the TEST-Lpar to 80 during "online" time Now I am looking for a way to do this LPAR-Changed on the HMC automatically. Does HSM delete BACKUPVERSIONs after MGMTCLAS Change?
