Dave, Here's what I found in my notes for soft capping on our z9BC 1. Log onto HMC as SYSPROG 2. Right click on Defined CPCs 3. Highlight Operational Customization 4. Select Change LPAR Group Controls 5. Open Edit pulldown menu (located towards upper left of window) 6. Select Edit Group Capacity 7. Re: Using CA-JOBTRAC V11 SP3 in Production
We do currently have Jobtrac v11 SP3 running in production, but it hasn't been the most stable or reliable version by any means. The addition of Datacom was a challenge on the install, and has added more overhead and pain as well. Reporting used to be a lot easier to deal with, and response time for some commands is now outrageous thanks to Datacom. Also, we had one instance where a job abended but Jobtrac marked it as complete, so I opened a ticket with CA. Their answer was pretty much that they didn't know what happened, and since I was never able to recreate the problem, they said it's working like it's supposed to. Essentially, they blew off the whole issue. If it were possible to go back and run 3.5 unsupported, I'd be very, very tempted. It was rock-solid and never gave us anything near the grief we've had so far with R11... Anyone using Tidal Scheduler on z/OS?
Hello everyone, I'm looking for information from anyone using Tidal Enterprise Scheduler prior to getting a vendor dog-and-pony show next week with people from other platforms. Is anyone out there using Tidal Enterprise Scheduler to run jobs/schedules on z/OS? Any comments, complaints, likes, dislikes or general thoughts about the product and its functionality? If you do have it. It looks like it runs via an agent on z/OS, how is it on resources? We currently run Jobtrac and use a lot of its additional functionality for automation of both tasks, schedules and JCL. Does Tidal's product offer comparable functionality to your knowledge. Re: question about Oracle on the mainframe
Yes, Oracle 10g is the last release that will run under z/OS on a mainframe. We just recently upgraded to v10.2.0.3.0 and are running it under z/OS v1.9. Oracle v10.2 is the terminal release for z/OS and premier support for it ends in July 2012, although extended support after that indefinitely for a price. If you ever want to go to v11, it can't be done on the mainframe unless you run it, as others have mentioned, under a z/linux-z/VM partition (which I'm hoping we'll get to try out sometime). Hello all, We just upgraded to z/OS 1.9 this past weekend, and now DUP jobs waiting in the input queue no longer show up via an I NH command. How come DUP status is now apparently considered held? Re: WLM and TSO
If the operators are opening the floodgates, have you considered using WLM managed initiators? That will let WLM initiate only whatever it believes it can handle. As for your TSO vs. Prod batch issue, how many TSO users are competing with the batch, what are they doing that's running so long into period 2, and how important is what they are doing compared to the batch work? The quick fix of moving TSO up to importance 3 is probably your best bet as long as you don't have an excessively large number of TSO users running long tasks simultaneously. Just my 2cents worth. If you're running z/OS 1.4, here's the link to the documentation page: http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/zseries/zos/bkserv/r4pdf/mvs.html You want MVS System Messages, Vol 2 for ARC messages. -Original Message- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of willie bunter Sent: Tuesday, June 13, 2006 1:09 PM To: IBM-MAIN@BAMA.UA.EDU Subject: DFHSM - ARC0521I Can anybody direct me to the proper place where I can find this message - ARC0521I. I checked the DFSMShsm Storage Administration Reference SC35-0422-04 manual but it was not listed. Should I be concernced about this message? I understand that it is informational but I had a bad experience when I regarded the following message as informational as well - ARC0030I (CONT.) DFSMSHSM INITIALIZATION. Re: Two HSM Questions
Yes, the backup datasets are available. No, there are no error messages. When the autobackup process starts, it appears to skip backing up the CDS's and goes on to the volume backups. Note that when the BACKVOL CDS command is issued, the backups run to normal completion. They just don't appear to run automatically. Does it matter that they are routed to a VTS system rather than going to disk? Is it safe to assume that these datasets are available to DFSMShsm at your shop??? What do you mean by 'bypasses the CDS backups' are you seeing any error messages? Is there a way to disable this process? I ask because when our daily autobackups start it bypasses the CDS backups and goes immediately on to the volume backups. We would like the CDS/Journal backups to run as advertised with the daily autobackups but can't figure out why this is not happening. Unfortunately, the person who set up most of our HSM environment is no longer employed here, so we're trying to piece together how things were done. Any assistance with this quandry would be greatly appreciated. My second question is what is the preferred methodology for doing a reorg of a CDS file? Is there any advantage or disadvantage to doing it with IDCAMS export then import (using the erase parm) versus doing an IDCAMS repro backup then delete/define and reload the file?
