Re: DRCLEAR

2009-09-21 Thread Crabtree, Anne D
Do you have any idea of the time it takes to clear a mod-9, for instance? The
thing about DRCLEAR is it cleared 121 mod 3's, 121 mod 9's and 126 mod-L's in 1
hour!

Have you looked at ICKDSF?

TRKFMT command--CKD

The TRKFMT command performs track-related functions on a subset of a

volume.

When data is no longer needed, the ERASEDATA parameter overwrites a

specified track or range of tracks, and upon completion performs an erase.

The TRKFMT command can be used for 2105, 2107, 1750, 3380, 3390 and 9345

devices (except for devices attached to 3880 control units, and 3990-CJ2).

The TRKFMT command does not support the 3995-151 and 3995-153 devices.

Anyone out there use the DRCLEAR from the cbt-tape website for clearing
DASD after a disaster recovery exercise?

I have downloaded it and followed the directions only to come up with
errors that I have no idea how to fix...

I ran the ICKOFF member against 3 mod 3's and 3 mod 9's and then tried
the DRCLEAR routine. The error file shows this:

UCB=176A Space search error. RC=RC

Volid=VOL=??

MAX Trks in UCB=MAXNO=??

Avail Trks=AVAIL=??

Ermsg=

Volume WILL NOT be cleared...Process continues

It gets this for all six volumes I am testing with.

Rick,

Even if you're **not** an FDR customer, FDRERASE is still worth a look :-)

Here's a link to an online demo for anyone interested:
