Re: ISPF START command remains on the command line

2015-11-25 Thread sunil mirchandani
Hello,

I was looking for the solution of a problem and I have got this mail where
we had already discussed this.So posting on the same mail thread to find
out why it is happening.

I am also stuck at same problem. Start command from command line is not
disappearing when I come back from any panel to previous panel which means
START command remains on the command line of the "old" screen.

I tried to use the steps/comments posted in the thread but didn't work.

Any inputs will be appreciated.

ISPF Release: 6.3
z/OS 1.13

Thanks

The point is that by default PFK2 is set to SPLIT, not to SPLIT NEW,
and won't create a third split.

at the second time, try to put ">" before the command. Does it help? if so,
the command table was somehow changed. Please please enter 7.3 to get the

That works well the first time; it doesn't work at all when you want
to create the third instance.

Have you ran a panel trace yet?

Regards,
John K

C.2 Panel trace command (ISPDPTRC) © Copyright IBM Corp. 1980, 2011
Topic lines 1 to 16 of 236

The ISPDPTRC command traces the Dialog Manager panel processing that
occurs within any screen in the current ISPF session. You can trace both
the execution of panel service calls (DISPLAY, TBDISPL, and TBQUERY) and
the processing that occurs within the Dialog Manager panel code, including
the processing of statements in the )ABCINIT, )ABCPROC, )INIT, )REINIT,
and )PROC sections of the panel.

The output from the trace is written to a dynamically allocated VB
(variable blocked) data set that has a record length of 255. Where the
ddname ISPDPTRC is preallocated, this data set is used, providing it
refers to a sequential, VB data set with a record length of at least 255.

I fully agree. Nevertheless, I do have my own great ways to jump around
without the need to take my fingers off the keyboard (no mouse needed).
I'm using PCOM macros.

My problem is not how to get around but to understand why the command
is not clear in the command line. Still investigating...

Everyone has their own way of doing things. Whatever works for you is great.
For me,
it is easier to use the mouse to double-click on the session that I want on the
swapbar.
Of course, I have my emulator set so that a double-click is ENTER at the mouse
position.
And my screen is set to 90 x 142, so losing the bottom line to the swapbar
isn't a big
deal for me. I think swapbar became available with z/OS 1.11.

I also have a key (shift F9, or F21) set to SWAP LIST. I use it mostly to start
a new
session with F21/Home/Enter. It behaves more like START than SPLIT NEW does. I
rarely
see the split line ("Always show split line" is disabled) because my split
screens are really
all full screen. SPLIT NEW creates a new split with the split line wherever the
cursor
happens to be, and that isn't my preference.

Lots of great suggestions in this thread. Use what you like and ignore the rest.

Well actually PF2 usually has the command "SPLIT" assigned. So there is
a command as well. "SPLIT NEW" would be similar to "START" in that it
starts another (up to 8, that will increase with z/OS 21., right) split

That only lets you have two splits. I usually have 4 or 5. Often 8 to 10, and

And I use SWAPBAR to help keep track of them.
