Re: Legacy product
CICS/VSE is quite ugly (at best) and was never supported on releases of z/VSE past Version 4.3. (z/VSE 4.2 was the last release to include CICS/VSE. CICS/VSE was supported on z/VSE 4.3, but with serious caveats.) Here's some background reading: http://enterprisesystemsmedia.com/article/pete-clark-on-z-vse-z-vse-announcements For newer z/VSE releases, including all supported z/VSE releases, you really ought to make the hop to CICS Transaction Server. To make that hop you'll need to migrate CSP (and VisualAge Generator) to EGL. Details on the migration process are available here: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/wikis/home?lang=en#!/wiki/W75c8733d99bb_4d55_9ee8_4dbc8c56ebee/page/Cross +System+Product+v4.1+Migration+to+EGL The runtime for EGL, called the Rational COBOL Runtime for z/VSE (5648-F66), is compatible with z/VSE 4.2 and higher. You can use z/VSE 4.2 as a "bridge" release if necessary since that release supported both CICS/VSE and CICS TS Version 1, in coexistence, along with the Rational COBOL Runtime for z/VSE. z/VSE 4.2 is no longer supported at this point in time, but for migration purposes it could be a useful "bridge" release. CSP on VSE was/is interpreted. This CSP to EGL migration is well worth doing for performance reasons, too. Make sure you refer to the interpreted CSP to generated COBOL migration considerations in the VisualAge Generator and EGL migration documentation. Re: Legacy product
When we went to z/OS 1.8, CSP compiles broke. That was long after IBM could help as the last of the CSP developers had since vanished in the Gulag. Since it was a z/OS problem rather than compiler (which had not changed), we STEPLIBed at compile time back the 1.7 LE library, and CSP compiles worked fine. No problem actually running the result in current versions up through z/OS 2.1 as long as we got past CSP compile. We're still running that way. . . From a support and computer utilization point of view there should be a project to kill the beast or get to the latest and greatest (EGL I think). This will probably be a barrier to going to COBOL V5 and higher. I have not fond memories of this beast. Among other things positive packed numbers get an F sign nibble, not a C sign nibble while negative numbers get the D sign nibble. I couldn't tell from the information online whether the most recent incarnation still has this idiosyncrasy. FWIT in the absence of any other reply. We still run CSP but on z/OS. Not sure of the release; I believe it's the last one IBM shipped. It still limps along with provisos. . . Since you ask about CICS, you may wish to post to the CICS List. It may be helpful To join if you have not done so go to this URL CICShttp://www.listserv.uga.edu/archives/cics-l.html Lizette > -Original Message- > From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:IBM-MAIN@LISTSERV.UA.EDU] On > Behalf Of W Mainframe > Sent: Tuesday, April 25, 2017 11:19 PM > To: IBM-MAIN@LISTSERV.UA.EDU > Subject: Legacy product > > Guys, > Anyone is still running old CSP 3.3 workload in CICS/VSE? > Thank youDan > > Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@listserv.ua.edu with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
