VM Workshop Website - Discussions
I discovered yesterday that the old VM Workshop listserv still exists. Please use the following for general workshop discussions.I'll work with Bill to get the message out to others. This will hopefully end the other thread. Thanks. Len send a listserver subscription request to: _LISTSERV@VM.MARIST.EDU_ (mailto:lists...@vm.marist.edu) That e-mail should contain the text: SUBSCRIBE VMWKSHOP firstname lastname The listserver will respond with a request to respond/confirm the subscription, after which you will receive any further posts to the VMWKSHOP just like those on the IBMVM listserver. It can’t hurt after confirming that subscription to send another command to: _LISTSERV@VM.MARIST.EDU_ (mailto:lists...@vm.marist.edu) That e-mail should contain the text: SET VMWKSHOP NOACK REPRO FULLHDR CONCEAL That command sets your VMSKSHOP subscription to: MAIL You are sent individual postings as they are received FULLHDR Full (normal) mail headers REPRO You receive a copy of your own postings CONCEAL Your subscription is concealed from non-privileged users; note that posting to the list will reveal your presence NOACK No acknowledgement of successfully processed postings In a message dated 6/28/2011 11:30:51 P.M. Re: SHUTTRAP
My watchdog machine as you call it, is the PROP running in OPERATOR. At each logoff of a user, my RELOG EXEC checks if: a) Is RELOGing in effect? If yes, then continue to check if: b) This user must be on at all times unconditionally c) This user must be on IF certain conditions apply - and checks the conditions. The exec that is run when SHUTTRAP catches a shutdown signal starts its work by signaling PROP to turn off reloging. Only after that does it start bringing down the various machines it is responsible to stop. If I were to cancel the SHUTDOWN, I would have to re-enable RELOGing, but to date I have not built in such a function. I have also never cancelled a SHUTDOWN, so if it ever happens, I will need to do the enable manually. (Of course, I better document this, or my successor won't know why RELOG stopped working...) In looking for the report pasted above, today I happened across the following. But please note that this site appears to report that there are many reputable hotels in Columbus with bed bug reports: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:96qas41VFmwJ:www.raveab le.com/oh/columbus/bed-bugs-in-hotels/l5302+varsity+inn+south+bed+bugs+colum bus+ohiocd=7hl=enct=clnkgl=ussource=www.google.com The hotel I booked has one reported bed bug incident on that site, too. It doesn't seem as if there will be any way to avoid bed bugs across the country until a better insecticide is discovered. Bed bugs are not a sign of a bad hotel, just the fact that someone brought them in from somewhere else. Without DDT (long banned for good reason) they are very, VERY difficult to eradicate. I agree that competitors and disgruntled customers have been known to lie about conditions. Take reports with a grain of salt (and a good flashlight). :-) There's no good way to know how significant the problem is, or... was. The problem may have been corrected since the first report. So much so that there are companies that will (for a fee) look for them and delete them for you. (For all I know, the trashing is being done for a fee as well.) Quite the opportunistic little eco-system. I travel a lot and stay at a variety of low- to mid-tier properties, albeit usually ones affiliated with national brands. I have never seen a bedbug, much less been bitten by one. And yes, I've stayed at hostel-grade properties in NYC, Chicago, and LA. You stay where your budget will allow. I think the whole hotel bedbug infestation publicity is blown out of proportion, but I could be wrong. -Chip- On 6/28/11 16:57 Len Diegel said: I just had a discussion with the manager at the Varsity Inn locations ($69/night).
