I have opened a problem report against the help file for GCT230E so that it will refer to the book title where more information can be obtained instead of 'in this publication'.  The book is called:  Other Components Messages and Codes.

Can anyone tell me where I can find some info on the abend code? 
I use HELP on VM for   GCTABD230E   and it says to "Refer to the GCS Abend table in this publication . ." 
What pub?  There isn't one listed on the HELP screen.

I think I found it.   You have to do a "GROUP" command, etc.  At least that's what 
I'm trying at the moment.

is assembled in the nucleus.  Sureky RSCS and VTAM are listed there.

I've got my own simple exec to help me buidling GCS, that starts with GCS 
ASSEMBLE instead of GCS CONFIG.
So I forgot a bit.  I think there was a CONFIG EXEC that displayed a 
panel.
Anyhow, you start with (in MAINT)
  VMFSETUP ZVM GCS
then have a look at the E- or F- disk
I think the panel creates a GCS CONFIG, copies that into GCS ASSEMBLE and 
assembles it.
As a final step you'll need to rebuild the GCS segment witj
  VMFBLD PPF ZVM GCS GCTLOAD (ALL
