I posted that nasi got into my bumper pull trailer tackroom, very small, FULL of post trip junk, saddles, tack, even dirty clothes in bags. I posted how I had caught him about to actually step into it. Then yesterday when i got around to cleaning it, I find he had a great time demolishing a huge amount of stuff, overturning my grooming box and dumping everything out, snatched down saddle blankets from the racks, drug out a tray containing fly sprays, ointments, detanglers and scattered it everywhere. the only thing totally missing? Can't find hide nor hair of it? a small quart sized container of sweet feed I use as treats. He musta ate it container and all is what I figure. what a little GOAT. Janice -- yipie tie yie yo

Re: [IceHorses] RE: Buck
We adopted Buck 2.5 years ago from the rescue agency. He was part of a seizure of a bunch of horses from horrible conditions. There were several dead draft horses on the premises, and I understand that some of the ones rescued with Buck didn't make it. They thought he was about 2-3 years old then. When we got him, we could barely get a halter on him, and only sort of lead him...and he'd kick out in a heartbeat if he felt trapped. And forget handling his feet. Wow what a terrible thing to happen to them. We have horses starved here also. I turned one in myself that I watched and knew they were not feeding him right. So sad. Well I know nothing about hinny's either. Cute what ever he is. The hair cuts, good thing he was not adopted by the saddle bred people. Every year when I was keeping my horses at a stable maybe thirty five or so years ago. The horses had their hair stolen right before show time. It was funny now that I think of it. I've noticed that there are other brands besides Coverall but they all look the same to mehow does one know which is better? V ... We have a Cover-All and love it. The quality is very good but I think the local dealer has a great influence our satisfaction. All buildings need maintenance and our local Cover-all dealer makes a point of sending people out each spring to do an inspection and tighten where needed or point out things I need to take care of. My guess is that the various fabric buildings are similar to each other. Some features from one brand being superior in one and the reverse for other brands. My suggestion is to find local dealers of any buildings you are considering and ask where you can visit structures they have put up. Ideally you want to see some that have a few years use on them to see how they stand up to your weather. Ask the customers what they like and what they might have done differently. Someone mentioned fencing in the Cover-all. We used 4 Spur brand Polymer fencing in on the inside attached to the actual trusses. There are tensioners on each end. Outside we have wooden rail fencing. Phil Icelandic Horse Farm Robyn Hood Phil Pretty Vernon BC Canada www.icefarm.com

It probably would have made the story more interesting and educational if they solved the bolting problem :-) As the story went, I didn't see that it was of much value. Hopefully, MOST caring people know not to beat the attitude out of a horse who is confused or in pain. Determining actually what to do is much more complicated though. RE: [IceHorses] Re: Beat The Attitude Out of Him
As the story went, I didn't see that it was of much value. I think the value of the story for me, and why it was posted here, is to get a feel of how the Icelanders think, where they stand in regard to horse training and handling. Also, when there were alot of Icelandics with bolting problems several years ago, someone said that it was the fault of the riders since Icelandics in Iceland don't bolt. This article sort of negates that. I don't know what problem the horse has. It could be a saddle fit issue. I made a mistake in the title as it should have been Beat the Attitude out of It (rather than him), as mentioned in the article. That also gives us a feel as to how they think of the horse. Judy

Charm is such a doll and such a delight. I have been so marked by my past life with volatile horses, I could only watch that video with half my mind thinking that's going so well and the other half thinking there was going to be a huge wreck when she stepped over a line. I have never driven a horse without a surcingle and no matter how many Icelandics I have a chance to ground drive, I probably never will. I don't have any way to get videos, but Tosca is driving over bridges, over and between poles and opening and closing the gait while being driven. Today was supposed to be a Tosca riding day, but a friend wanted to go trail ride before the predicted rain started. We got out about half way when it started to pour. Yuck. Nancy

Re: [IceHorses] Charm's Ground Driving Lesson
thinking that's going so well and the other half thinking there was going to be a huge wreck when she stepped over a line. Yes, it could happen. I feel pretty secure with her temperment and working with lines. We've done enough practice with ropes to build up to this point of confidence in her mental stability. I have never driven a horse without a surcingle and no matter how many Icelandics I have a chance to ground drive, I probably never will. Not using the surcingle was an active choice. I wanted the session to be pretty free and easy and the lines low. Since she caught on to the go from one bucket to the other pretty easily, it should be fine next time. Again, the lines don't bother her, but I may not do that with another horse! I don't have any way to get videos, but Tosca is driving over bridges, over and between poles and opening and closing the gait while being driven. Super! Can you put the digital camera on video mode, on a fence, or ladder, or table, or truck and just turn it on for a few minutes to capture some of your work? Judy

Have any of these newsletters (Tolt News, Quarterly, Set The Pace, Eidfaxi) done any articles on leg conformation? on the flight of the leg? Judy
[IceHorses] Re: Legs, Form, Function, Flight and Movement
I would like to see video of the front legs in flight, of some evaluated Icelandic Horses. I think it would be good to see some of the stallions particularly, but any evaluated horse would be good. Anyone up for video'ing their horses' legs and flight? We need to learn more about the conformation of the front legs, and the biomechanics. I realize that this can make people and their horses vulnerable, but I think that, at some point, attention should be paid to breeding good functional legs, and we can only do that with knowledge and education. You can send the video to me anonymously if you want. And if you don't want to do that, at least go out and video your horse's legs and analyze the video. Try to look at it with an unbiased eye. Figure out if your breeding stock have legs good enough to reproduce. Thanks! Judy
