When I selected the option I made in grub,the system booted from the Linux
mint image on the disk but after some messages on the screen it said that
certain packages couldn't be found and it was reverting to the shell.That's
what led me to this conclusion.

Yes we have to avoid command lines at all cost. I was in the process of
convincing a guy to switch to Linux, but when he saw another Xperienced
Linux friend using A Command Line he dropped the whole idea.

Netcafes are a good place to start spreading awareness of Linux. The only
problem is to try and  convince the  cafe owners to change.

Check the connection to your router. Are you able to browse from your
desktop when your laptop is also connected to the router?
It should not have occured, as Asianet will only detect the MAC of the
router(either correct one or cloned one), so the ip will be given to router
and the router will provide you IP's through NAT
 to the LAN. Please check your router settings.

Please post the output of
ifconfig
here, so we can see if you have got the ip correctly.
you may have to run it as
/sbin/ifconfig
as you are using debian lenny and fedora.

If you go more concerned and doubt about MS open standards also what about
other popular standards like flash which is proprietary which is to be
concerned more than the .NET issue .  Also I don't think a language C# is
some what related with it. It is the framework that is having a concern.
Remember they are also working under law and can't change the license one
day. Framework 1.1,2.0,3.5 all can be used under those licenses even if they
changed in future versions.
