Well 5 or more serious topics and no mention of wikileaks , thats how you would like it ? Well I think user group meets should be fun . It should be. There is no strict agenda. We can discuss that too, if we like. FSUG meeting is not a monopoly. Everyone can do anything. But my doubt is, if we are discussing, what will be the result? The other 5 topics will have some outcome. Also there are 2 localisation topics in the meet , I think they would be better off in SMC ie Swatanthra Malayalam Computing ) meet . There is only one localization , KDE. There is some overlap of members between FSUG and SMC. We are fixing date for next SMC camp and mentors. That's all. Wikileaks is the most happening thing , You heard of Amazon , paypal easyDNS blocking service which are exhibiting a monopoly . There are cloud services , money transacting and most importantly DNS services which are being controlled .Isn't that worth a talk /chat ? It is not a simple one or two person task, it is much more challenging than liberating software. We have to build things which respects our privacy before we can abandon thse services. Diaspora, statusnet/identica, riseup.net all are steps in that direction. We used Unix to develop GNU/Linux in the early days. Being helpless about a situation is not the right approach, even if we are compromising, we have to know about it and think and work towards a solution. So the first step in that is to be concerned about these. And one compromise does not automatically imply you should compromise on another issue. We can't solve all the issues at once, it takes time and effort. See for example Chamba itself, we want all cultural products to be free. So should we just stop watching all the films? We know what we have currently is not the best thing, but before we could completely stop these, we need to come up with things based on our philosophy. Even Free Software movement itself took this long to reach its current stage, at any point people were using non-free software till we came up with a Free replacement. 9.10 don't have EVDO drivers .. I hav faced the same problem once ... You can manually install it by modprobe but its better to use 10.04 LTS ... BSD's are best for kernel performance. I run FreeBSD server that consumes 32 mb ram without X and abt 40 MB ram with X. In terms of Linux with kde I prefer openSUSE, that is stable, error free and fast. CentOS is best Linux Server Distro. Aneesh, this is a user group meeting, not a formal event. The sole purpose of the meeting is to discuss for the well being of Free Software and to have some fun. I accept that. It will not happen if you are so monopolistic like this! I just posted the rough agenda with Wikileaks as one of the topics. But, you finalized it with your opinion. It is not fair! I am not enforcing. I suggested those five topics. It is not my opinion alone. I have discussed with some senior members and fixed that. Hi friends, I hope many of you in this group are aware of unofficial Ubuntu, Debian and Arch repositories' mirror in College of Engineering Trivandrum. We are willing to provide the repository to the public. It needs time (official work). We are currently working for the DNS registration. Most probably by new year we can give you a good news too. As a part of it, we would like to remaster ubuntu/debian as per your request and provide it to the public. We need honest voting from you linux users to help us decide what all softwares to be included. You can visit SchoolOS wiki and learn how and what script were used to customise it. We have documented it well and you can follow all updates on googlecode. http://code.google.com/p/schoolos/ After that your can change logos/wallaper/theme or add/remove packages whatever you want. Coding repo contains code/script for Ubuntu. we are working to create exact same behavior (packages/customisation) on Debian and fedora. You might take up these branches.
