Re: [Ilugc] FOSS Workshop in Gnanamani Group of Institutions, Namakkal Dt.
I hope, those who criticised baskar should answer now.. even in GNU license, it is given that the software is free, but we can charge for training and other services.. Baskar has been regularly posting his FOSS seminar events here for past few years. His efforts being seen as an example, and guidelines on how we can do. IF any one want to setup labs, and take seminars on FOSS in engineering colleges, i think, baskar had offered all his materials.. (pls correct me if i am wrong).. SO dont discourage such persons by this negative comments.. In my view, even if we suppose, baskar is posting it for self-advertisement, what is the wrong in it? You can post your self advertisement in your own blog. Most of the FOSS programs which I have been conducting in TN, I have been doing it for free at my own expenses and only few colleges pay my expenses. And in the past few programs I have been conducting regular quiz contest based on the Revolution OS movie and distributed more than 50 copies of LFY magazine alongwith DVD at my own cost In all my programs i distribute atleast 10 copies of the magazine and several distro CD/DVDs to the students to learn and try FOSS and I have distributed 20 copies of the magazine and more than 20 DVDs for the above 2 colleges and I never mention these things in any of my post (and still have more than 450 copies to distribute for students worth more than 45K). If you want to know the students interest, then you have to be with me atleast a day and you can understand very well what college students think about FOSS. I can only accept the above statement when any of the colleges in TN says, I have been doing it for self advertisement. If you feel my posting as a self advertisement, you could better filter my emails easily. With regards S. colleges, i think, baskar had offered all his materials.. (pls correct me if i am wrong).. Recently we have sent a letter to 490 engineering colleges in TN that, the colleges can get the following FOSS resources (more than 450+ GB) free of cost by providing a 500 GB external hard disk. 1. Fedora-14/15/16 with complete repo including RPM-Fusion (i386, x86_64, source) 2. CentOS 6.2 with EPEL repo (i386, x86_64, source) 3. Debian 6.0.4 with complete repo (i386, amd64, source) 4. Ubuntu 11.10 with complete repo (i386 only) 5. Linux Mint 12 with complete repo (i386 only) Few colleges have already sent the hard disk to obtain the above mentioned resources. The only request we made with these colleges is, they should help other nearby colleges by providing these resources when required by them. S. Can individuals get the copy of the repo? Or is it possible to give instructions to download the full repo so that individuals can download it for their personal use? If the individuals could help any colleges they might know to get the resources, then the individuals will also get the same resources free of cost. Our main objective is to promote / provide the FOSS resources reaching the academic community wider and also help individuals who contribute towards that. Regards S.
