I have read a lot about Data Science and Statistics. I am a web developer

Does any one / company have any data science project? I would like to work

Re: [Ilugc] Are Indian FOSS communities closed-source ?

2015-07-11 Thread Karthikeyan A K
There is a solution though. One can use federated network like Diaspora,
all one has to do is to log in to a pod (server), type his / her post, add
a tag like #ilug or #chennaipython and hit send.

This will be sent to many other pods which has users listening to it.
Though one can delete comments of others in his post, he can't stop one say
posting message with tags say #chennairb

The only way to stop some one dissenting is to request every other one to
stop listening to that person, and the other one can do the same to the
person who claims he is the leader of the group. Thats true democracy
(well, a kind of).

I do have great ideas for diaspora project, if students are willing to beat
the evil social network Facebook, please do contact me. Lets change the
future.

Re: [Ilugc] Are Indian FOSS communities closed-source ?

2015-07-11 Thread Karthikeyan A K
I had real bad experience with ChennaiRb, the ruby community for Chennai. I
wrote a book which had a cover of a beautiful woman, and like the Talibans
people were up in arms against me for that. I fought back, that irritated
them and they found a silly reason to chuck me out. I have created my own
group Chennai Ruy programmers as alternative where it has no rules, but
none knows about it.

Ii find Ilugc far far better than those groups (thanks to good admins like
Shrinivasan T, and Madan US who really loves this group and was my boss
before), but Indian groups are for propaganda, power and mob mobilization
than about real technology.

The book on non Indian forum had earned me praises. Believe it or not many
women has liked it on facebook!! Indian men have weak and inflexible mind I
suppose.

Any way PyGobjects is more powerful and am happy about it :)

Re: [Ilugc] Good centre to study UI design and development

It costs to buy embedded system hardware, test your stuff in real world.
Web tech is not like that. You can do all of it in your laptop. Plus you
get instant gratification when you see your work appearing on a browser
window.

Plus the hardware industry is closed and proprietary in nature, web and its
standards are open and free for all.

seems to be nothing of those rules and talk of software and technology
prevails. Jump on to http://discuss.fsftn.org/

I am going to promote my favorite ruby programming there as Chennairb (ruby

Re: [Ilugc] nice to see some changes

2014-10-13 Thread Karthikeyan A K
Frankly I don't believe bottom posting will do much good. My Gmail lets me
top post by default and with my mobile its ( bottom posting) time
consuming and almost impossible. Possibly splitting the this group into
ilugcd (ilugc - desktop) which enforces bottom posting, and ilugcp (ilugc
portable) which tolerates top posting might help. For me tech group should
be tech group rather than a rule enforcing center. Fun should be encouraged.

Well if one hadn't used Kenneth name as shield for his defense I wouldn't
have commented on it. If Kenneth was there and he opposed me and if I had
felt I am right, yes I would have battled him.

Honestly, I have been posting in various forums and two of the forums, both
from India, have annoyed me greatly, out of which, this one the most. To
make matters even worse both forums bear Chennai in its name. Strange!

No way I am putting bill gates above Kenneth, whatI mean to say was Bill
Gates doesn't like to see old ways die, like Windows on every computer. But
we at lugs like to have change. We must pioneer change. One of my friend
who heads a marketting company and uses linux widely has told me that he
is afraid to post in this group because of the politics here. I see the
politics dying and I am happy about it. Once more young guys start ignoring
old rules and focus on posting about technology because they love it, the
old Soviet style guard will vanish.

[Ilugc] nice to see some changes

2014-10-12 Thread Karthikeyan A K
Its nice to see some changes in ilugc. I have been top posting for a while
and none seems to care. The ancient dragons that breathe fire for every
thing they could think about seems to have mellowed.

I have used SMS lingos when I posted from mobile (because I can't type
fast) and still none has come out cursing me.

Its nice to see control-freak old habits dying and new era dawning. Let me
see how this non political situation holds.

Now it looks like a tolerant tech group than controlled by some law firm.

Hi All,

As said by Thiyagarajan we are in lack of volunteer support. But If any
one is willing to provide support we can also conduct via webrtc
platform. We very much appreciate the volunteers who can provide
support(like setting up the gadgets and connectivity) .

Apologies for late reply.

Debit cards in india and financial and banking rules change every second.
So this bwhaviour is no suprise. Try using established indian gateway like

[Ilugc] The cost of I.T industry

2014-09-22 Thread Karthikeyan A K
Hello People,

On a cigarette pack there is a huge cancer warning, when there is a smoking
or drinking scene in a movie there is a warning message. When you want to
join the military there is no warning of possible death but just talk of
bravery.

Now there is no warning about the I.T industry too! We all are keeping it
hushed up. I am planning a book on the good, bad and the ugly part of I.T
industry, to expose the truth, to expose the glory of wealth as well as
indignity in it.

I want to talk to people to learn about the facts, learn how one is missing
life in pursuit of becoming next Bill Gates, or how one has become the next
Bill Gates and is having a good time.

I have to to a publisher about it and he seems thrilled about the idea
(mostly the Psychological and Health effect the industry has on people). I
want volunteers to tell me their story in software industry (all data will
be kept anonymous), so that my book can give right guidance to people who
read it.

If you want to be part of my project mail me at 77mi...@gmail.com or call
9444018524.

Its not enough if we have software, I think we must aim to create a system
in which people who create software taste freedom.

Thanks for reading.

[Ilugc] [Commercial] Looking to conduct Rails training

2014-09-14 Thread Karthikeyan A K
Hello People,

I am a coder primarily using a technology called Ruby on Rails. Its THE
MOST marvellous way to create web apps. But I see its adoption is very low
in India. The reason is because it has great abstract ideas like Unix does
(as compared to other OS), its hard to understand its abstractness and
simplicity. So there aren't many people. Even people who claim knowledge of
it are extremely crappy.

Many small companies are afraid to take upon Rails because of the fear of
lack of resources. Many students don't know how valuable they are if they
master this skill. If we can build a bridge it will be enormous boost to
the industry.

I would love to conduct Rails training, but don't have the infrastructure.
If any one is interested in investing and / or providing infrastructure
and would like to know its enormous commercial potential please contact me.

That's exactly what we are saying. Stop pushing the Hindi linguistic ideas
on us. That too using a server in the heart of our capital and to say that
we must contribute to a distro that's named after a language that once and
till now trying to oppress our culture is truly unethical.

If this distro is so pure, why not go to Japanese, French or German LUG's
and tell them to contribute to this distro?

+1 , we Tamils should make our own Namma Linux, rather than support a
distro that benefits just people speaking Hindi. And northerners should
leave their thought that entire India will accept Hindi as national
language and rat as national animal as they are more in number.

I should have said it before as I had the same thought, but did not just
not to start a flame.

That's great, but won't it be another fragmentation? For example Boss linux
is practically used no where in India. It was funded by the Indian
government, but did not get traction. But ofcourse gobverment is highly
beuracratic and no real technicial would like to work under it.

Why not develop packages for popular distros that will add our languages in
user friendly manner, or urge people to participate in translation
projects? Or tell people to improve linuxes power efficiency as India is
really deficit in electricity.

The best think would be a distro that lets us configure what ever we want,
I think http://www.gnewsense.org/ did it, but I don't know its status now.

But any way as the OS is getting stabilized, the only battle that's being
fought in linux-for-normal-people world is the UI battle and Ubuntu is
winning it all the time. If one says android, I would like to install
Ubuntu touch on their tablet/phone. But I feel this will be a great student
project to learn this OS. Your college will be proud of you.

The next step I think is convergence. You can slide your phone into lap
top like casing and your phone will power the laptop. Or plug it into
HDMI port and it will act like a desktop. Ubuntu has done that,
Microsoft is following and soon Android and Firefox will do it too.

The topics spoken possibly. Other than that nothing. Ilugc conducts
meeting without any monetary or any other self interests. Companies
conduct meetings to gain popularity, attract talent, get visibility..
... blah blah or because they truly love technology. Who knows?

Ilugc is the mother of all these meetups. Though we people at ilugc
smack each other now and then, each member of this group has very great
respect for other. And most of ilugc people love free technology for the
sake of goodness. Thats where ilugc leads.

Attend an ilugc meet and you will know. It has changed my life.

Great article. But I wish some one writes about the stresses faced in
today's I.T industry too. One must know that todays industry is not
about engineering achievement, but mostly about bowing to the stupidity
of those who control money. Of the 12 years I have coded, I can only say
that I roughly enjoyed a tiny fraction of it.

Yes writing nice about something is good, but I feel one must know the
inner workings, politics, and garbage that this industry has
accumulated. Thats where I think true journalism lies.

Just a question: How many I.T workers are really happy people? Why?
