Example usage to lock ctrl locks is,

xmodmap -e 'remove control = Control_L' -e 'remove control = Control_R'

which is not possible.

[Ilugc] Install Package dependencies separately over Cloud

2010-08-16 Thread Saravanan S
Hi all,

I am working on a project that sets up packages on the cloud.

For example, If i want to setup Drupal, i need seperate machines to
maintain separate tasks,
like mysql in one machine(cloud instance/node 1), apache server in another
machine(cloud instance/node 2), etc.

So if drupal.rpm has dependencies apache.rpm(has deps too) and mysql.rpm(has
deps too)

Is it possible in rpm package manager(yum) to handle such customizations &
above requirement?

please suggest any other way to implement the same.

+1, My first project officially was Safe Browsing Environment, that's
heavily on Virtualization.
We initially started with qemu for its light weight, but the performance was
way too slow without kQemu(the accelerator module for qemu).

Then we had to switch to VirtualBox for the only reason that kqemu doesnot
work on 64-bit :(

I accept qemu is good and we were surprised to see the snapshot feeature
working just fine, but the performance is little bad.

And also Qemu doesnot support Hardware virtualization, yes it is an
emulator. i know.

The safe browsing environment on QEMU was not safe from key loggers, but
virtualbox did that fine :)

For home users with 32-bit systems, QEMU is really good :)

Very Well known fact. May be you did not get my question right.

Infact we can, Simple, both in X/shell they are keystrokes directed through
STDIN, that can be monitored and correspondingly a daemon can trigger
something like N backspace key presses where N is the length of the keyword
to be banned.

+1, some way to recognize series of key strokes not key combinations.

with xmodmap / similar tool, we can map key combination (eg. ctrl+alt+r) and
not series of key strokes that matches the keywords (eg. typing "word") to
be banned.

In menu.lst root=/dev/sdaX;
If you are confused about the same, Try to label the partitions with e2label
and reference that with LABEL parameter.

e2label /dev/sdaX /labelX

Yes, Red Hat charge for the RHN (Red Hat Network ) subscription. Unlike
fedora, yum does-not work free in RHEL, but needs subscription from Red Hat
Network to access the RHEL repository, unless you have a local yum
repository.
There's also an installation number that is required to install RHEL.
I received RHEL 5 DVD a year back for my Research and Study, advantage of
being RHCE. ;)

[Ilugc] Compiling the whole Linux distro from source

2010-02-08 Thread Saravanan S
Hi all,
Can any suggest a open-source Linux / some OS project that has a
good documentation on compiling every integral part of it and getting the
same fully functional iso image/ stuff that is readily available otherwise.
Most of such projects lack documentation especially on compiling everything
from source. Few are deliberately placing the src contents scattered, that
further adds to the complexity.
Is there any such really Open-Source Project on this regard?

Oh well i knew that(i must have elaborated before), anyways thanks Abishek.

I write a script to kill the existing X and start it again with some
different parameter, the problem is that if i run that script from X, it
will kill X first and once this happens, the child(my script) also gets
killed and thus X fails to start again.
How to i solve this issue?

How to make my script run above X ie. no way related to X as a child
process.

Hi Rajkumar,
In Linux, i-node numbers represents link to physical
locations (AFAIK). Unless you necessarily require a physical location i-node
numbers don't change or its not needed (in case of moving files inode
numbers do not change).

If u need to change a file's i-node number, trick is to copy and paste it
into the same location with a new name and remove the original file and
rename the new file back to original one.
Now check the new i-node number with the command ls -i.

 alsasound start

In my case the following command did the work,

To restrict a user from logging in, LOCK it

Dear Kannan, you are confused (if im not ;) ), You don't need to setup the
local repository on every machine to install those packages, repository is
something available to access for others to update or install any new
packages. You can access the repository source and it will list out all the
applications available, you can select required ones and install.

If you want to learn about the integral parts of every distro, i wont
recommend the tools available for remastering.
Rather doing with these tools, extract the iso, squashfs, initrd.img,
modify, create, repack, feel proud learn whats there and work upon :)
With these tools Remastering capabilities are very very very much
restricted.

Thanks steve, I remember i have done something similar a year before, in

The boot display information is inside isolinux/isolinux.bin file in the iso
