If you're looking at setting up a system to try out things before you do it on your server you should definitely go with centos or any other redhat based system. However, if u're looking at experimenting and expanding your horizons give a debian based distro a chance. For years I've been a redhat variant only guy, but took the plunge with ubuntu on desktop and debian on server and haven't looked back since. Re: [ilugd] Fw: multi gateway system
Dear Sir, We need to implement BGP or similar solution because we need more bandwidth. our service provider VSNL has the maximum package of 512 kbps only in broadband. They have suggested us to go for lease line and that is very costly. so we don't want to make one more standby line how can I find details of BGP or any other solution for configuration Thanks and regards Swapnil K. - Original Message - From: Sibayan Das To: SWAPNIL Sent: Wednesday, December 21, 2005 7:58 PM Subject: Re: [ilugd] Fw: multi gateway system are you going to use that 256k and 1mbps link to send out your data? or as well as you want data to come in to your network? BGP is actually Border Gateway Protocol. if you want to use both the links at the same time then you need to conbfigure BGP, if you want to use one link as a back up of other then you don't need anything. if one link is down and you simply want to use another just pull off the RJ45 from the ethernet of the system and plugin another. make things simple to troubleshoot easily :-) and BGP is not an easier and normal choice. ;-) but BGP is simply great protocol to use. One is configured to the internal IP address and another is configured to external IP address provided by VSNL. The current bandwidth is 512 kbps, we are looking to increase our bandwidth to 1 mbps. Can we add one more Ethernet card in the server and configure it to external IP address of new broadband line ? Also can you clarify which gateway will be automatically taken by the System ? If anybody is facing similar problem, please help me to configure my network Thanks and regards Swapnil K. System Group Modular Infotech Pvt.
