World known facts dont become clever hacks or
discoveries. No Niyam, you still cant run around
saying Eureka!.

Well let me offer you a really high tech solution for
this. Why not buy a multicore Quad (or any number
greater than one) processor box. Put loads of RAM into
it. Then use virtulaization and run multiple instances
of OSes on your box. That way you can launch a new
firefox window in every OS and login to different
gmail accounts.

If you do not insist on using web browser interface, try fetchmail +
exim4 (for local delivery) + mutt + sensible .forward rules
for filtering.

To address the original problem, you can forward them all to a single
account, use filters based on the To field (check archive) so that
your inbox is empty and the mails are all folded into separate labels.

Then use the multiple accounts feature in Gmail (settings - accounts)
to get multiple from fields.

Or even use the new POP import to import from multiple Gmail accounts.

The problem with this is that it doesn't offer anonymity. Gmail's from
header munging has an (on behalf of: actual-email-id) in the header
portion.

Vish

Can some configure options be given like that? This is quite
 interesting. Never tried that.

  5. Make multiple user account on computer, say user1, user2,
  user3 ...In
terminal login as user1 and open firefox from there. Since the
preference directory for firefox will be all in user's specific dir,
  it
  wont be using same cache/

If you mean the solution is like opening a GUI terminal, and then 'su
user1', x-server does not allow to open another display. At least this
is what happens on Ubuntu. Even su into root, and then as root, 'su
user1' too does not allow it.

typically you can do this..
1) open a terminal
   $ xhost +
2)
   $ su - otheruser
   $ export DISPLAY=:0.0  (or DISPLAY=urip:0.0 )
3)
   $ firefox

for each user, repeat (2) (3) in a different terminal.

[ilugd] [OT]Wireless Router

2007-09-09 Thread Puneet Lakhina
Hi,
I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop. I have an existing Airtel DSL
Connection at home.I want to share this internet connection with my laptop
through a wireless router. My DSL modem is connected to my desktop via
Ethernet. I have never bought a wireless router so dont know what to look
for and what to watch out for.
I would be really thankful if any of you could provide me with some helpful
hints.

Another question that I have is how do i go about installing Ubuntu on this
laptop. Should i format the drive, install ubuntu and then install the Vista
Home Preimium that comes along with it.
The pre paritioned configuration has a recovery partition also.Whats that
bit for, and does it need to be recreated for Vista to run??

Re-size window$ partition bu utility under vista and then install
Ubuntu. But better still dump vista.

[ilugd] Network Seminar by Girish

2007-09-09 Thread Shrinivasan T
Friends.

This Saturday and Sunday, Girish gave a wonderful seminar on Networking
Concepts. He covered very vast concepts and Topics.

The IIT ICSR hall is so capable of handling more people. We expected about
200 people. But first 87 and second day about 30.

He talked about tcp/ip, various protocols, crypto, email, spam etc.

Honestly saying, I can not understand them fully.
I simply watching what is going there.

Some students were so brilliant to follow him and ask doubts.

Mahadevan took care of Food, tea and snacks.
Barathi tooks care of whole thing.

Koushick and Noorul helped a lot.
But, we missed noorul today.

I dont know how others got the knowledge.
I got only less things.
I have to increase my level.

Girish. You did a wonderful thing man.
Two full days. Full talking.
Take care on your health man.

People gave a plenty of feedbacks.
I hope girish learned a lot from this presentation.

A lot of wishes for Girish.

Keep Going.

Dump vista.

Vista's utility for resizing partitions is a pain. It generally allows
very limited resizing, sometimes asking for a minimum of 80-90 gb for
the C drive.

Microsoft has given up fat32 partitioning and vista does not do a fat32
partition.

Some of the common proprietary partitioning utilities like partition
magic do not work on vista. There are others that do and perhaps work
better than the vista's own utility. But they do not come free.

And qtparted, as far as I have seen, does not resize vista paritions.

In sum, throw out vista. Too bad you had to pay for it.
